Practice Database or Spreadsheet

Has anyone ever developed a database or spreadsheet to track practice history such as:

Date:
Which Gun:
Where fired
How many fired
etc.

And them maybe even gun type and details.

No, but that's not a bad idea! Wish I had thought of it sooner!

I track every range session and match. I have several standard practice routines I go through and I calculate stats to determine if I'm improving or not. I know exactly how many rounds and what type of ammo is shot through all my guns.

Are you using a database to track that?

I do a lot of practice and I would think, that if I get in legal trouble, documentation on how practiced I am can't hurt.

I use a spreadsheet to track all my trips with my XD45.

I track:
  • # rounds each trip also the running total of rounds fired(592)
  • Ammo Manufacturer, Type, # Grains
  • The total lbs of bullets fired to date(19.3)
  • The amount of money spent on ammo(per trip and total).
  • Any problems (example FTF, FTE, ect)
  • Bulleyes and %bullseyes to total shots.
I also keep digital copies of all my targets.

I'd like a little more

I'sd ike to have more detail than that.

I would want to track all the gun info, model, serial, date purchased.

Then track all shooting.

Then be able to tally number of rounds for a specific gun, etc.

I created a simple FileMaker database to track:

- Date
- Which Gun
- Ammo
- Round Count
- Distance
- Location
- Grouping Size
- Misc Notes

The way I see it, ammo is too expensive to not get a return on investment in the form of progress history that I can refer to later on. It also allows me to say something like, "This particular gun has 3,412 bullets through it using xyz ammo." And since I'm such a cheap-ass, I also save all my targets so I have no choice but to acknowledge all the flyers I've shot.
