Carry to and from work?

The company you work for has a no guns policy but you feel the need and have the permit to carry. What do you do.

Let's say you work at a bank. You have to drive to the bank in the city, you have to park in a parking lot, you have to go back to you car after work, when it is dark. What do you do?

If the company has no carry policy and its not on a list of places explicitly mentioned in your local laws then I would (do) carry.

My company has no policy, and I carry. No one knows I carry and no one should. (Insert deity(s)) forbid if something were to happen I would be prepared, but unless a policy were to magically appear banning weapons in the office I see no reason not to carry...

As long as I could pull it off, I'd carry. Even if it was something small.

Luckly for me I work for a small private family owned company and they ENCOURAGE me to keep it on my person, But when I worked for a car dealership in beaverton, they had a no wepon policy and after another salesman at a diffrent car dealership got held up for a freeking Kia, I started to carry DAILY! If the nature of your proffesion calls for it, you can always get a new job, not a life!

Check the local laws. In Colorado the only places you can NOT conceal carry are K-12 schools, Federal buildings and buildings where metal detectors and security are in place like a court house. So even if a business or resturant posts a sign saying "No Guns" you can still conceal carry. If they were to discover you have a firearm the only thing they can do is ask you to leave. Same goes at work only thing the company can do is ask you to put the firearm in the vehicle or let you go.

To answer your question if I worked at a bank. If I could carry I would, if a would be robber showed up. I'd give him all the money he wanted. Its not mine and it's insured. If the robber started shooting co-workers ect... different story. I would carry a knife and flashlight if you are concerned about walking to and from car at night try to park in lighted areas next to busy streets.

Tennessee you can't carry in same places as CO with the addition of establishments that serve alcohol.

Personally I'm not concerned going out to my Jeep, just used that as an example or if the bank is getting robbed, they can have all the money they want, I don't care.

If I do, I will probably carry my 38 on my ankle. I don't want and can't get fired, too much at stake.

Is the parking lot where you park leased or owned by the bank and how far is it from the bank? You could talk to your coworkers and see how they feel about having to walk to their cars in the dark, then have a powwow with the bank manager to see if they could improve the situation. If you can't get the an escourt to your car, maybe have beter lighting for the parking lot. If they won't do anything to make you feel safer, either take your chances on carrying, or go elsewhere.

Like I said earlier, I'm not that concerned. I don't have my carry permit yet, and I have lived 24 years without carrying so not carrying inside is ok, I'm not sure about leaving my gun in my car.

I will get with my security officer and discuss it with him. I am the manager, just got promoted and don't and won't screw that up. And also as I mentioned, if I do carry to work, it will be my little 38 revolver strapped to my ankle.

To me, the options are simple. You can find another job. You can comply with the company rules and take on the risk of encountering a problem. Or you can risk carrying anyway, knowing that you may lose your job.

I don't mean to be insulting with the simplistic assessment, that's really what it boils down to. We've got the same rules where I work. Yet we've had several break ins (some real close to having folks still in the building), a drive-by shooting that shattered glass in an office with someone in it, and several homeless people that have establish the woods behind the building as their new habitat.

Fortunately I have a boss that allows us to go to the gun range during lunch, knowing that we make our target copies at work, and that we have our guns in the car. We have several people that have them in their car. And I know of one individual that always has his gun on him (not me).
