I think cars are becoming complicated enough, thank you. Just another thing you'll get dependent on then it will break. I wish they'd make the cars more DURABLE and easier to work on and skip the gadgetry. Maybe thats why I like older, more utlitarian cars like my boxy old 240.

I'm certainly not in the belief that older cars are better than newer. Its just that some newer car problems involve software malfunctions and so on that do require the car to get to the dealership. Engine wise and build wise my 2001 Impala is MUCH better built than any car I've ever owned, including 1994 Buicks Regal, 1996 Park Avenue, 1988 Cadillac Deville, 1989 Chevy Corsica, Ford Taurus, and a Chevy Lumina.
Infact the 1988 Cadillac was the biggest piece of **** I've ever driven in my life, it was only 2 years old at the time and constant failure. The 1994 Buick Regal ran pretty damn well, the Corsica, Taurus and Lumina all had problems of their own. My Chevy hasn't had any problems with the engine or body, just a computer onboard malfunction, thats been quite a bear of a problem. I iimagine though as hi-tech computers become more familiar in vehicles, these problems will work themselves out over time. |

I've seen enough folks make an afternoon out of parallel parking that I wish all cars could do it. But, I also believe that if you can't parallel park, you need to trade your DL for a bus pass.

I'm with y'all on all the "Features" of newer cars. Mine beeps constantly if I don't have my seat belt on. Like I really need it on to back the car out of the driveway or put it in the garage in the morning. But it is beeping loudly. And the fuel low llight is a joke. There is a guage there for a reason. My light comes on and, you guessed it, beeps. I usually get gas pretty quickly when I know I'm running low, but sometimes I may still have a few miles to drive to get to the nearest station, and it is beeping every minute or so until I get gas. I hit the cancel button for it to stop beeping, but give it another minute or two and it starts back up.
That's what I loved about my old Jeep Wrangler. No power windows or doors, no automatic transmission and cruise control, no fancy computer systems and lights or beeps to let me know something should be done. Just you and the vehicle. |
