Survival Gear...

So, we all know that each of us at least have one gun in our repetoire. Do any of the rest of you own vests, Kevlar Helmets, ammos stashes, etc, or am I the only whack job on this forum?

What I am asking is do you guys prepare beyond the gun?

I have a kevlar vest (underneath regular clothing) that I used for a mission trip in a fairly dangerous country.

As far as other survival gear, I have a bunch of Camelbak gear and some Maxpedition stuff.

Wow, that's two things I want. A kevlar vest and to go on a mission trip.

The only stuff I have would be a military issue Camelbak, tact. light, and small stash of ammo.

stuff

Got a vest. Don't wear it anymore I don't see the need. I Got lots of ammo and the ability to make more. As far as a SHTF happening. I'm so far out in a rural area. by the time the big city folks could get here I would be where they won't go. That's my plan I already bugged out and I would just bugout further. I'm in a small pond. I might not be the baddest frog in the pond but I'm big enough the normal frogs don't bother me. I don't worry about that stuff any more, no need. They want to riot in Watts again OK film at 11 I might watch. All this worry about doom and gloom doesn't intrest me. me and mine can be quite self supporting.

My wife and I both have small kits that we prepared..it's got the necessities, food, water, extra clothing, and ammunition (at least 100 rounds for everything I own), as well as camping .

I don't own any kevlar or other "bullet resistant" clothing because it's more than a tad out of my price range and, given the current situation I don't really see the need for it. In an emergency situation I don't own anything that anyone knows about that would be worth killing me for.

My biggest fear right now is a pandemic due to mutated avian influenza or bioterrorism via the use of smallpox or some other long forgotten disease americans were once immunized for.

You can bet your right arm that if that happens I'll be the hell out of any major metropolitan area or city with an airport until the thing blows over.

I'm on the fence. Part of me thinks that if there is a 'Jericho' style attack, then I'll be fried instantly and I'm out of the game. But if it's a SHTF of any other flavor, then I'll probably stay put in the outskirts of the city where the food and ammo is.

The other part of me wants to head for the mountains.

It's not an all or nothing situation. Keep in mind that there are quite a few small rural communities in the US that would make a decent place to stay, provided they'll have you. My wife's grandparents live in a small town in Idaho with about 10,000 people, we would probably ask if we could stay there in the event of an emergency.

Also keep in mind that it is very unlikely that most of your food/ammo is produced in your large city. It is probably trucked in from an outside source. In the event of a catastrophe shipping routes would probably be shut down/inaccessible so these things would be equally as difficult to obtain in a city as they would in a rural community. My first stop would be at a gun store or a wal mart to purchase all the available ammunition, gasoline, food, and fresh water that my bank account would allow. Then I would leave. Hopefully, soon I will get into reloading and will be a bit more self-sufficient.

Right now I'm in a non-threat city. But once this project finishes up I'll be moving back down to Houston. All I can do then is pray that God will get me out alive, if not, well thats it for this world.
