Nope, you're not alone, don't worry. I really am not supprised to see that people are prepaired. I think it's the same reason a lot of us have CCWs.

100 Rnds is not enough. I have a few thousand of each except my 7MM Mag. I would also be hunting, ammo, food and firearms would make for great trading items. Money would not be worth much in SHFT so store items to trade. One recommendation was to stock .22 rounds, cheap and everyone has one. If you think about it 100 rnds is only 3 (30) rnd mags for AR or AK or 6 full mags of 9MM. I've got over 25 (30 RND) AR Mags for my 2 AR's full plus 2 cases ammo. Enough for full combat load with either AR. Also AK has two drum mags 75 each full 150 rnds and 8 (30 Rnd Mags) plus 2 cases ammo. I'm set for HD and am working on food storage. We just bought a Shelf Reliance food rotation system and 3 Can Consolidators. The 6' rack is about 1/2 full and we will fill it with next months trip to Costco. www.shelfreliance.com

http://www.barrelsforwater.com The prices on the site may not be right. Get the wrench he offers. VERY good.
They have a little "stuff" left in them but it was a very simple rinse. They retain a little smell. I'm guessing the water will have a little flavor. We will rotate the water out sometime in the next couple months. I'll test it then.

I am stocked for exactly one month. I have a shelving system with enough water and food for one month. Also, I store 55 gallons of K1 Kerosene and have two K1 indoor heaters with multiple spare wicks. Dynamo powered radios. Flashlights with enough batteries for over a month. Also, have lots of GoreTex clothing for my whole family. Gotta love the German MilSurp GoreTex that Sportsman's guide sells. I have been buying ammo by the 1000 round case. I love the South African .308 that AIM has had on sale. I bought a $HITLOAD of it.
It is amazing how many of my family members crack up at me for doing it. I have been doing it since pre-Y2K. Incidentally, they are the same people that went into a massive panic on 9\11, and once again when we had the massive east-coast power outage. When we lost power for half a day, you should have seen the stores within 3 hours. They were ransacked. People panicked. What would happen if it were something serious the next time? People who do not prepare are FOOLS. Quote:

i'd do a good search.... especially for "SHTF". there's been a few threads. here are some things off the top of my head that i have and think are important. i have a quick shoulder bag and a bigger backpack for extended situations.
- tactical/hunting vest w/ lotsa pockets - water filtration system (water purification pills at least) - small stove (MSR pocket rocket... it's tiny) - a GOOD fixed blade knife - compass/maps/GPS if able - fire making abilities: muliple (lighter, matches, firestarter) - flashlights - extra batteries - basic (or extended) first aid kit - paracord/rope of some sort, twine - 2 way walkie talkies - duct tape - ammo, gun cleaning supplies (boresnakes are best for size + can of CLP) - small set of binoculars - set of gloves, emergency poncho |
