Does anybody know if it's possible to get MRE's for civilian stockpiling? I can store bottled water, but those hermetically-sealed meals seem like they'd be great for a SHTF kit.

Well, I've got my shotgun, got my rifle, got my pistols... I used to play airsoft, so I've got gear (minus the kevlar). I guess all I need now is ammo and then I'll be ready for when the zombies come.

It's funny you said that but for some strange reasom i feel that something like dawn of the dead is really possible. I personally don't have any kevlar or body armor but i do have a couple thousand rounds of 9mm and 7.62 ammo.

Plenty of milsurps and milsurp ammo, stocked pantry provided 99% of food storage with a few emergency only supplies. We try to keep the pantry stocked with canned goods. Figure if I have to leave the city all bets are off anyway. Living in a desert doesn't make freezedried meals real attractive to me. We also have some water storage. Any of you phoenix folks want a good supplier of used soda barrels I'll get you in touch. He's in gilbert.

We have 72 hour kits and camping gear but I need to get the garage organized. Moved into a new house almost a year ago and the garage has been the last project on the list. Almost ready to get to it.

MREs

When buying MREs watch the expiration dates. IF you just takeing them on a camping trip thats OK but if it's for SHTF storage watch the expiration dates.

unless zombies are attacking what is the point in stock piling large quanities of ammo, if for some crazy reason you ever need more than 100 rounds per firearm most likely you would be facing a formatible force in which you would be dead anywho........

there two versions of MREs, civilian and military, its mostly the menu difference. info is on the web for both and where to get them. the military versions are not supposed to be sold to the public. thats why they "created" the cilivian versions. with recent events they were handing them out like napkins so there are probably bunches of military version mres out there. my bugout kit has a week supply of MREs.

I hear you. I am a rural Ohio farm boy, with land and family in West Virginny. I am not too worried about the doom scenarios, but I want to make sure that I am prepared to get to my land a few hours away.
