Goodyear Tire stores not gun friendly!

I took my wifes suv in to have a tire patched and a tire rotation. I went to the Goodyear store up the street from my office.

As I walk in I see a pictogram of a revolver with the circle and line through it and the words "No Firearms!"

Since I made a special trip and time was of the essence, I had to leave it for them to work on. While there I asked about it and the guy said "yeah, corporate sent that out a while ago. We don't figure it'll stop someone from coming in to rob us, though...and we don't enforce it."

When I went to pick it up, I was talking with the manager and he tells me that part of the reason for the policy was for their employees...so they don't keep a gun in their tool box, etc. While we were talking, a plain clothes cop comes in...so as we are talking I asked him what he thought about it. First he said that concealed carry is concealed carry and no one would know you had it...second, he said that it is not Florida law, only corporate policy and the customer can choose to ignore it if they want to.

I told the manager that today would be my last trip to the Goodyear store due to their policy. He handed me his card and encouraged me to contact corporate to share my thoughts with them on the subject.

Maybe you should. 'Corporate' needs to hear from 'real' people once and a while.

See, the employee with a gun in the toolbox arguement doesn't work. Any company can have a policy that prohibits employees from bringing firearms into work at peril of being fired. Mine does, its perfectly legal and I hate it.

Since the manager himself isn't concerned at all, and you were carrying concealed anyway, it sounds like a "wink wink" sort of sign that doesn't practically apply to customers.

It also doesn't sound like the manager asked you if you were armed and therefore didn't care, so why take your business elsewhere?
Maybe other Goodyear stores in the area have managers who are anal about "the rule", but since this one is cool with it, I'd continue to spend my money there to support the manager if nothing else.

the problem however is that its Goodyear policy. THerefore none of us should support them in any way to protest the issue.

The postal service? The fact is that it's safer to work there than the private sector. It's the third largest employer and per employee has less violcence than the private sector. It just gets more publicity when something happens.

Quote:

*Despite a number of highly publicized post office incidents, a Postal Service commission reported in 2000 that postal employees are actually less likely to be homicide victims than other workers. The phrase “going postal,” which the commission noted has become a pejorative shorthand
phrase for employee violence, is a “myth,” the report said. (Source: Report of the United States Postal Service Commission on a Safe and Secure Workplace, quoted in U.S. Postal Service AnnualReport, 2000.)
