A New Addition to The Collection

Hello folks,

As of today I have a new addition to my collection. I had been looking at revolvers for a while now and today I picked one up. A very gently used S&W Model 686 4 inch barrel. So far I love it. Everything from cylinder-barrel gap to timing checks out perfectly. As soon as I picked it up out of it's case I knew why I bought it. There is just a special FEEL that a revolver has. An aura that surrounds it...if you will. Now I'm not saying that Auto-guns don't have their own unique attitude, but a revolver just has something different about it that I like. Anyway, I'm very happy with my purchase and I got a hell of a deal on it too! Pics will be coming soon, and a range report will be up this weekend. Thanks to everyone that contributed to my "I miss my revolver thread"

- Ryan

Congratulations.

We'll be looking for a nice wheelgun for the Mrs. pretty soon, and those Smiths are nice ones.

Hey, that was my first gun. In fact still have it sitting in my safe. I take it out every once in awhile, still shoots great.

Makes you feel like Dirty Harry….LOLOLOL

Know the feeling. I went to the gun show up here and had a S&W Model 10 (the first gun I was issued out of the acadamy) in my hand. Brought back some sweet memories (and some that were not quite so sweet, but that's another story!).

Passed on it because it was in poor condition and the guy wanted dear for it - but there is something about the wheel gun that these semi's just don't have.....

Normally I'd call you all a bunch of dinosaurs. Revolvers (other than snubbies) for self defense? Crazy! But not that long ago I saw the S&W model 22 thunder ranch 45acp, and all I can say is DADDY LIKES.
I must have one, oh yes, it will be mine.

A dinosaur I may be....(actually I'm only 22) but when I hear the subtle Click-Clack-Clock of a double action revolver hammer sliding into cocked position while a perfectly aligned cylinder rotates to the next round it just sends chills down my spine...

+1. As long as weapons fire solid projectiles, the wheelgun will be around. And even after we switch to phasers, some nuts will still shoot their Colt SA's and classic Smiths. The design has been pretty much perfected over the past 150 years, and they do have a certain "charm" that's lacking in many semi-auto's IMO. As much as I love my XD, a good revolver can be a work of useable art--I just have a difficult time feeling that for automatics. I've seen a few 1911's that came close, but it's not the same.

Gotta love a Smith mid-sized 38/357 six-gun! The 586/686 series are fantastic shooters.

I'll never sell my 4" Model 19 357 - accurate and very well made.

Smith semi-autos are lacking but their mid-sized revolvers are king!
