Gun storage

I am wandering how others store their firearms.
I don't have kids in the house (accept me I am only 49).
My "non defense" firearms have trigger locks.
My defense firearms are stored in a drawer that has a lock (only for when the grandkids are in the house).
Just in case anyone is interested here is the lock . I just drilled the drawer and installed the lock. The cam will bend if the drawer is pulled real hard but it will break the lock. That means if I have it locked (kids in the house) I can open the drawer but if the kids try to open the drawer I will know. My oldest grandkid is 5 so she could not open it if she wanted right now and by the time she can rip it open she will be taught firearm safety.

My long guns stay in a safe. My defense gun stays in a pistol safe next to my bed when I'm not home, or if there are others, especially kids over. Otherwise my pistol stays sitting on top of the safe when I'm home, specifically at night when I'm in bed.

Right now I only have the one handgun and no kids, so it stays in a nightstand drawer. As the collection (and family) grows, I'm going to buy a good gunsafe. Those GunVault things look pretty good for quick access to the defensive pistol, but I haven't used one yet.

I have a rather large gun safe downstairs, approx. 900 lbs., for all long guns and most of the handguns. Have a few select handguns upstairs and wanting one of the GunVaults myself for safe(r) keeping with my child around.

I keep my long guns a stack on 10 gun safe... Keeps people from touchin it......I keep my handgun by my bed in a stack on handgun safe. it has a keypad on it so i can just hit the code and it opens. . I like this one better because when the battery runs out it doesnt open like a couple other ones they had i stock. you need a key to open it.. then put a new battery in and reset the code...... It seem sturdyer than my long gun safe to.

The long guns go in the gun safe downstairs along with most of my pistols. The only exceptions are my Springfields. The 1911 goes in my quck access bedside safe, and my XD which is on my side 95% of the time the other 5% I'm sleeping and it's in my night stand.

Just a thought

I was browsing around home depot the other day and came across the padded foam stuff that you would use in a tool box. Those seem like they would work well to keep a firearm on. They were kind of expensive so I kept walking but I would think you could buy them on ebay for a decent price. I keep a few of my guns in my night stand drawer with foam under them, so thats what kinda gave me the idea. Anyways carry on

I just installed one of these in our home. It's awesome, easy and fast.
