Cop shot girl, family sues city

Another waste of taxpayer money...

Quote:
(Rochester, N.Y.) – The family of a Rochester teenager shot by a police officer in July 2005 intends to sue the city.
Van White, an attorney representing Lashedica Mason, filed a notice and summons earlier this month.
Lashedica, who was then 13 years old, was shot several times by the officer after she lunged at him with a knife.
The court filing says the shooting was an act of negligence and a civil rights violation.
White plans to file a lawsuit next month seeking monetary damages.

This is why cops are getting out of the business at break neck speed. They are expected to "protect and serve", but get sued for doing it. Every moron that gets arrested on COPS screams "brutality" or "discrimination". While they are standing there with crackrocks pouring out of their pockets, no shirt on, and verbally threatening the cop on video.

Some people in this country believe that they can take away our guns because we don't need them because we have law enforcement to protect us. These same people think it is wrong to harm a suspect, or to infringe upon the civil rights of a suspect, let alone execute them for murder. At the same time, they prosecute cops for doing their jobs. WTF????

In a case like this, the COP should be able to counter sue both the family and the representing attorney, knowing that the COP did not make a mistake and that the family and lawyer are only looking to gain from the girl's death. Sickening.

I know I'm probably not alone in feeling like this, but if a family member of mine lunged at a cop with a knife, pointed a gun at a cop, or murdered someone or whatever, I'd publicly condemn them if what happened was the truth in the way it happened.

In my training (investigator, Inquiry official ) I have been tought that LE and some others are "under cover of law" and can not be sued or charged while carrying out their duties. OH well so much for the laws.
UNDER COLOR OF LAW - When a person acts or purports to act in the performance of official duties under any law, ordinance, or regulation.

My brother was an LEO in Memphis a decade or so ago. Same situation but the BG was a 200 pound crackhead. He and the other officers involved were all sued for the same thing.

Oh yeah, and back then all Memphis PD had to have publicly listed phone numbers. You can imagine the fun.
