Wink

Two things:

One: Every time bad things happen, who are the first to be called? When something doesn’t go as expected, like a perfectly choreographed movie or episode of CSI, then it’s the COPS fault. He or She has a couple of seconds to make a decision while attorneys have months and years to dissect it. Cops are pulled from the population; they aren’t manufactured in a training camp and breed to be a cop. You train to be one, we don’t make all the right decisions all the time and some don’t need to be cops BUT a Majority of them are good hard working peacekeepers.

Second: I love XDTalk!!!!! A cop topic came up on Glock Talk the other day and a majority of the people were dragging the cops over the coals. I even brought up “Innocent until proven guilty, but I guess it doesn’t apply to COPS”. Well I got dragged then for being a COP.

I love you guys (and gals) once again COPS aren’t always right but hey, let the facts come out before you begin to condemn.

Thanks buddies.

I just wanted to say that I think th epolice officer did the right thing, especially in the given situation. I definately would have done the same thing under those circumstances. I wanted to address something that Glxso said and it had to do with the taser comment. If someone is in a full lunge, it doesn't matter if they're hit with a taser or a bullet, neither is going to stop a 185 person who is committed. Even with a .45, which is a much larger bullet than a 9mm, or slightly larger than the .40, it would not counteract the force of a 185 pound person coming towards you. Think of it this way, a .177 caliber BB hits a 8 lb bowling ball while the bb moving 1200 fps and the bowling ball is going 1mph. That's moving on, but it still ain't gonna do anything to the bowling ball, the bowling ball will just keep on moving the same way because it has enough mass to compensate the acceleration/velocity of the projectile. Same idea behind the bullet, it will deliver force to the target, but not enough to counteract anything. The only way to truly make a "quick stop" is to plant a bullet in the CNS (central nervous system) and if they were already in a lunge like off the ground, they're still going to come forward. Just thought I'd make that comment about the situation.

I have a huge amount of respect for cops. We need them. We have to have them. I have never received less respect from a police officer than I have provided them. I am always respectful and address them with a respectful tone. It works wonders. I admit, there are some real A-Hole cops out there, but they usually calm down with time and experience.

Someone needs to start passing some laws to protect our police from lawsuits and frivolous $hit. If I was a judge, I would look at half these dash cam recordings, throw the book at the perp, and let the cop walk.

I understand your point Tomcat, but that one extra step she can take between the taser hitting the nervous system, and the instant drop of a bullet severing the brain stem can make a difference. That's just my opinion about the situation tho....that's why in my last post, i ended it with "Just my opinion tho". It's my opinion of the situation, i've never been unfortunate enough to be in a kill or be killed situation, and we're all looking at this is with 20/20 hindsight. Unless we've been in that situation, I really don't think any of us can make a total judgement on what is right or wrong, less lethal or lethal force, because there is always going to be an argument for the other side.
Out in the field, we get a split second to make a decision, and it haunts you for the next decade while everyone tries to tell you their opinion on what you should have or shouldn't have done.

I guess it kind of shows what kind of family life the girl had. I'm glad I was born to loving parents.

Based on what I read and heard about this, it was "proper use of force" all the way. The LEO was in what he considered a life threatening position vs the "girl". He and his partner were responding to a 911 call placed by the family. His shot was a lottery ticket for these people and their lawyer.
Ouch. Worst taser policy I've ever heard of. What happens when you're hands on with a 300lb drunk and your backup is a good 3 minutes out? A taser on the belt is a great tool that can be accessed quickly, a taser locked up in the car is a worthless piece of plastic and electronics...

Of course no one enjoys shooting "13-year-old girls in the face", but if its to protect your life, then it must be done. I'm under the impression that this girl was not fatally shot. Also, in court, it must be shown that you were trying to protect your life from someone attempting to take it. Protecting your life means shooting at the person trying to kill you and stopping them with deadly force, because once you draw your firearm, under all circumstances you are using deadly force. There have been Bad guys that have gone to court and won cases from "non-lethal" shots, resulting in massive damages to pay from the real victim of the crime. A shot to the head or midsection will further show how much the cop felt his life was in danger. In the majority of cases, when the perp is shot dead it is much better in the long run, civil and criminal court wise.

I feel sorry for the City of Rochester PD. Man I can’t even count how many times the taser has saved me from a fight. “Come on cop, huh is that a taser?”… “Yes”…While hands are going back. “so have you ever shot someone with it”…

LOLOLOL it’s a great tool to add to the Batman Belt.
