apparently a lot of you folks turned the t.v. off after you saw tito beat the crap outta shamrock and then do his little routine (dig grave, pull body in, flip shamrock the double-bird). once shamrock stopped seeing birdies doing circles around his head, he initiated a congratulatory "truce", offered his hand to tito, which tito accepted, and they both raised hands saluting the other fighter. tito went so far as to thank shamrock for giving tito the opportunity to fight him. so, yeah, tito was a punk in his usual style after winning the fight, but that's his routine. whereas, he and shamrock seemed to truly be sincere in putting their differences behind them, and acknowledging the other as a great warrior. so in that way, i think they showed a lot more class than some of the more accepted sports athletes. granted, shamrock showed more, being the loser and all, but i still give them both credit.

i think credit also should be given to those athletes who stay with the same team, shrugging off better salaries, to better teams, and better locations. of course, cal ripken comes to mind.

i also saw an nfl pregame spot on reggie bush, he's apparently done a lot to help communities and those less fortunate than him. i believe jerome bettis was chosen some type of "generous athlete of the year" by usa today, and i think i remember reading a year or two ago that warrick dunn was the most generous athlete for that year.

i was a huge priest holmes fan, having had him on my fantasy football for 2 or so of his huge years, and one or two of his injury-plagued ones as well. he seemed to be a class guy, too.

I saw a deal on Warrick Dunn. He is one class act. He goes and funds either the building or purchase of homes for single Moms and the fills them with furnature. He does this because of his own Mom being a single mother (and a cop if I remember right).

But, for every 1 Warrick Dunns, there are 10 jerks, pulling cell phones out, doing dances on the Dallas stars and trying to outdoo the other idiot to try and get a TV spot on the highlight reel. What happened to letting your actions dictate how well you are liked??

I quit watching most professional sports years ago. I saw it coming, and just couldn't stand the "I am a SuperStar and make millions of dollars" attitudes.

No Baseball, football, definately no basketcases, er... basketball. I may watch a hockey game once in a while, only because the owners of the teams and league stood up to those guys and said they would rather close the league, than pay through the nose.

When there are people living on a minimum wage to survive, then you have these ass hats complaining they don't make enough to live in Beverly Hills, or wherever they want their 3rd homes, it just pisses me off!

What happened to the days when the men/women played for the love of the sport???? I don't support them in any way. No clothing, no stickers, no hats, no purchases of their products!

im not gonna lie i love endzone dances and gimmicks, however im tired of the fighting.... and after the tito and shamrock fight.. which went fast.... again, i was amazed at the sportsmanship that was displayed. okay maybe being nice afterwards a bit but shamrock and tito both lifted up eachother hands, titio thanked shamrock for passing the torch and shamrock said it couldn't go to a better fighter, i was amazed

There are people like "A-Rod" and Derek Jeeter that emphasize my point. What happened to winning with style and losing with pride? I am sick of the show boating ass hats that are sadly many of the great athletes of today. Do they not realize that they are role models for the younger generations? It seems that the only athletes that ever show any respect for their peers are the ones that have been in the game for a long time and are getting ready to retire. Payne Stewart is an example of someone that I long to have back in the world of professional sports. He played with a style that is dying...that of the true sportsman. Like they say, "nostalgia ain't what it used to be." Does anyone else feel this way?
It has been dead a very long time. I have never understood making sports figures into heroes, they don't accomplish anything of any real importance. Too many in our society give accolades to jocks and jeers to soldiers and public servants who actually make real sacrifices and exhibit actual courage. Sports were originally created to train and occupy the time of warriors and as displays of physical prowess as it related to warfare (usually). It has since grown into an empty display of pomp and deserves no respect at all, except as a very casual pastime.
