Saw the Lipizzaner Stallions last night...
I took my fiancee to see The "World Famous" Lipizzaner Stallions last night. Man, what an interesting and awesome show! I had never even heard of these horses until sometime last week. But I knew my fiancee (a horse lover in the biggest way) would enjoy the show, so I bought two tickets, and surprised her with a "date night" to see her favorite kind of animals. Luckily, they were very local to us. The show was held at the University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center in Newark (DE).
I won't even begin to butcher the true spellings and pronunciations of the fancy steps and moves they were performing. I'll let their website tell you about it all ( http://www.lipizzaner.com/ ). But, I'll just say this: I was truly amazed at what a horse can actually do. And the riders were in full costume/uniforms, too. To see horses prance around with their chests out and heads held in the highest splendor while performing their moves was simply awesome. I don't know how else to say it. They would side step, trot, bow, jump/kick, dance to music, and even dance a ballet. And most of this was with 2 or more horses side-by-side, performing all in sync. If you've never seen these horses perform, you have to make it a point to try to see them when they're near your hometown. It was just awe-inspiring. And the event is geared for people of all ages (there were tons of young children there, too). It was a very well-done performance, and it will leave you with a new-found respect and admiration for these magnificent animals (and their trainers/riders). Pictures to follow soon.

They are magnificent animals...I have family in Spain who have a small stable of Andalusians, from which Lipizzaners are believed to have descended from...wonder if that show will make its way to south eastern Virginia?

The show of the Lipizzaner Stallions is truly magnificent. I got to see them a couple of years ago. I've been fortunate enough also to see the Andalusians in Sevilla, Spain, home of Spain's Royal Family horses. At the time, you could walk amongst the stalls after the show and see them up close. It was a great experience and I enjoyed it immensely.

for you Westerners, I think their schedule is taking them up to Canada now, and later this year down to FL... So they'll probably be back to the West coast next spring/summer. Keep an eye on their schedule on their website. It'll tell you when/where they'll be.
