Looking for any Jeep experts.....
So after my move to wonderful missouri I am in the need for a 4x4 again!
I have owned in the past a toyota 4x4 truck, I liked it and it was OK for casual off road adventures. I learned to drive in a family friends CJ5. I learned to off road in that too, it was always interesting hitting a trail down hill that you had gone up as it looks much worse going down...... After pricing 4x4 quads I figure I can get a driving Jeep CJ5 for about half of a quad. Are there any of you that can point out a good online site for some buying info and what to look for in Jeep CJ's? I have good mechanical skills and know what to do for the most part. I know I need more info to make a good choice on what to buy. Any help would be great. Kent |

Dont mean to go off track here, jeep owner myself... well not a real jeep, its a grand cherokee... anyway, have you looked into the Toyota FJ Cruiser? If not, you owe it to yourself... sorry, now back to your thread...

Kent, I can recommend http://www.jeepin.com
A great bunch of people. And they can probably point you towards a more local group to help you find something, or to go offroading with if you wanted. If you were closer to Florida, where I am, I could suggest a lot more. I'm a Jeep addict... got 3.... '89 YJ, '03 KJ, and a '06 TJ. Good luck! |

Yep, I'm a Jeep lover. I own a 74 CJ5 Renegade. Try www.earlycj5.com even though the concentration is on early year CJ's there is plenty of talk on the later years in the "Intermediate" forum section. I think its the best Jeep forum on the web.
I have a ton of Jeep links I could share, just let me know what you need. |

That looks like a load of info. What I am looking for around this area is a 70's CJ5 in running or near running condition. Looking to spend $2000 or less. Kent |

You could try jeepforum.com. I have an 05 TJ Rubicon (4th Jeep) and belong to that forum. Go to the CJ forum and the For Sale section and ask. Someone should be able to help you out. If you don't want to sign up PM me and I'll ask around for you when I get home.

i'm a toyota guy, so you and i won't agree from the get-go...but...when buying a vehicle that you intend to wheel, you need to be careful about buying a rig that is already built-up. most likely, said rig will have been wheeled before, and probably not kindly. mall queens are nice because they are already lifted, although the lift is probably cheap and crappy and not done correctly. the jeep you linked to, with the arb lockers, looks nice, but who knows how hard it has been wheeled? your best bet is to buy a nice, clean, used street queen and build it yourself...my $.02. if you buy an already built rig that has been wheeled hard, stuff is likely to break and you'll be re-building anyway...it's an expensive hobby
