Scientists teleport two different objects

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that there are just some things man was NOT meant to figure out how to do?

it's not just you, but it's definitely not me in the boat with you.

Knowledge is power. Treated ethically, all scientific breakthroughs are a boon to mankind. Unfortunately, the scientists and engineers often are goal oriented, and while most are good people, it does tend to lead many down a path of ethics be damned, get the project done so I can get paid/published/otherwise credited. Much like with carrying a gun, the scientific/engineering development is just a tool. The harm/benefit comes at the hands of he who wields it. You have a mindset in this instance that is a lot like many "anti-gunners" you are saying one thing or another "shouldn't be available to the general public" like California saying "50 cal rifles are bad so the gen. public can't have them."

I'm not anti-scientific breakthrough or anti-technology, nor did I say that some things shouldn't be available to the public, or anything like that. I was just posting my thoughts on a particular subject/idea, pondering the possibility that there may exist some things in the Universe that we were never meant to know or do. That's all.

If we ever do have something like a teleporter (like in Star Trek) designed and developed and ready for the public market, I'm all for it. All I know, is that when it comes time to test a teleporter on human beings, I will NOT be in line as a guinea pig.

my apologies for misinterpreting. But I still don't think there are things beyond our comprehension, I mean, we still have what, 85% of our brainpower locked away in reserve for something for some reason... This statement being based on the current running assumption that the avg. person uses 10-15% of their available brain power, and me being generous

If I understand it correctly, this "teleportation" technology absolutely cannot make a Star Trek transporter. To do this technology, you have to have two "entangled" objects, and they have to start off right next to each other. Then you can separate them and "teleport" the state of one of them onto the other one.


Here's a bad analogy, but one that might help explain what's going on. Imagine taking a lump of clay, breaking it into two lumps and moving one lump of clay far away from the other one. Then you make a sculpture out of one of the two lumps, push a button, and the other sculpture instantaneously becomes an exact copy of the first one. You have "teleported" the shape of one of those lumps onto the other one.

But you can't just take a sculpture and teleport a copy of it somewhere, because they have to start off being parts of the same lump of clay.

So you couldn't make a transporter out of it because you'd have to make a "lump of clay" right next to a person that was quantum-entangled to that person, and move it to the destination first. Only then could you teleport the person onto that "lump of clay". But you still have to physically move the lump first, so it doesn't help you any in terms of real-world teleportation.

Perhaps one of the other sci guys on the forum can correct me; I've always been a little fuzzy on my quantum physics.
