wish me luck - Ex taking me to court today...
Well, the time has come when my Ex is taking me to court to get a permanent Order for Child Support in (which is expected), and (this is the best part) to try and get MORE money from me than I've been paying.
I love my kids, and I've been paying my Ex child support ever since Feb 2004, when a temporary Order was set thru a PFA (long story). Over a year ago it expired but she didn't change it to a permanent one. My employer was still taking my amount out of my checks up until May of this year. Then, I continued to pay child support on my own, the same amount, up to and including last month. The original Order amount ($1050/mo) was based on her being unemployed, but now that she's working (making almost as much as I do) she wants more money. Never mind that she (and the kids) lived in my house and I paid the mortgage on it while I lived in an apartment and paid for that, too. and I help w/ transportation, etc. when I can. I've been tapping the savings acct every month to cover all my expenses. It never seems like I make enough money to cover monthly bills. Well, I gotta get ready to go. Just wanted to vent a little I guess. The mediation is at 10:45, so I should go. Wish me luck, and hope that I don't get financially raped any more than I already am. Thanks for listening everyone. I'll update this after I get back (assuming I can afford the internet account)....

Dave, I've been where you are, and I'm still paying (6 yrs down, 6 yrs to go). I want you to have the best luck imagineable, but better than that, get a darn good lawyer. There is no substitute. Do not give on anything. I don't know how old your kids are, but this kind of thing can financially ruin a person if it's not handled properly. You have to force the courts to make the right decision, and not bend to their bias toward the female.
One more thing, just because you argue your right to live your life at a certain standard doesn't mean that you don't love your kids, or that they won't love you. Sorry, but I feel sick whenever I hear about this kind of thing. Let us know what happened. |

Been there, done that. I went however, in 2000, and got custody. Now she pays me... when she works. Funny though, she only has to pay me 160.00 a month for 2 kids. Not sure where the fairness is in that but at least I have the kids.
Good luck to you!

Best of luck... I hope it works out for the best all around but more importantly for the kids. That would really suck to be a kid in that situation.

It's always sad when women treat the men this way. I'm all for women getting the money for the kids, but c'mon, seriously how much does it cost a month for a kid? Almost every woman I know who gets child support, spends the money on crap she wants, not on stuff for the kid.
And since when does a woman getting child support, mean that a man cannot ever buy anything new again for the rest of the time he's paying child support? A woman can go out, buy new clothes all the time, a new car, new jewelry, etc. But I know so many men who as soon as they buy themself a new truck, they are taken back to court for more money, and the women get more money out of it. |

Good luck with everything. Hopefully she won't get more. Seems to me 1050/mo is plenty for her. She needs a job.
