Mexico doubts border fence will happen

48.913 * $126.5M = $6.1875B

So we're looking at a $6 billion fence for 700 miles.

WAY too much. I'm sure we could find a way to make it cheaper, but just as well if we didn't have to use the government method of payment. (Behind schedule + Overbudget = regular timely payments and no penalties)

Dustoff, I can understand where you are coming from, the illegal immigrants you see are working for slave wages and being used by American industry, I agree.

However, they come to the US to work, pay no taxes, use our schools, hospitals, and welfare system to create a better life. They are abusing us just as we are abusing them. Along with the workers are criminals. They rob, rape and murder then flee back to Mexico to avoid US prisons. Many of these criminals come from places like Nicaragua, El Salvador, Columbia, IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN and YEMEN! That's right, the middle east! No I am not making this up.

We have NO security to the south and Mexico doesn't want us to have any because the illegal immigrants send millions of US dollars back to families in Mexico every year, giving Mexico a huge economic boost. Much like a 35yr old living with his parents, only when we close the door to them will Mexico grow up and solve their own problems.

And yes, I have picked up a rifle and fought the good fight in Iraq, so no jumping me about that.

We have something like 1500 mi of border with Mexico. Probably that much more coastline in Southern California and western Gulf of Mexico. I fail to see how 700 miles of fence will do anything other than make them go where the fence isn't or just tunnel under it. If the issue is security not illegal Mexicans, we can add something like 3500 mi of border with Canada and hundreds of miles of coastline that we can't secure either. In either case, 700 miles of fence is just a spit in the ocean. Spend the money on something useful.

Here's the solution to illegals in american...

JAIL THE EMPLOYEERS OF ILLEGALS!

Make it a 10 years in jail for anyone who employee's an illegal alien, suddenly people who are here illegally (mexican, or not) will no longer have jobs. They will go home...

It's the only thing that'll work and would be effective. Probably don't need 10 years tho - maybe something a tad less drastic

I believe we should secure our whole border; north, south, east and west. I also believe as some others have posted, that those who knowingly employ illegals need to face fines/jail time.

Immigration has made and will continue to make our country great, however we have the right to demand that people who wish to immigrate here do it legally.

Agreed. I don't blame the illegals for wanting to work here. They are still illegal, but the employers should take the blame too.
