More wishfull thinking.............
Quote:
every undocumented human being from Mexico that I know of is working...make that EXPLOITED...by American industry...so much for your insightfull observation on who is sucking on America's teets...I should know...I dispense free health care to over 300 undocumented Mexican families monthly...they are, if you insist, sucking on my teets...but that's ok...it's up for the sucking. All you offer is an excuse for excluding the Canadian border...what I really see is the xenophobia which IS the reason for your line of thinking. Like I said before....the enemy is not to the south, but to the east, fella'...grab a rifle and sign up and fight the good fight like all the other honorable men and women who are doing so right now...leave the Mexicans alone. |

That's all conjecture. I didn't make an excuse for not closing the canadian border. I said I was all for it. I say close them all, closing one is worthless (I'm not saying don't let anyone in or out, but lets see some IDs.). I agree that we've got enemies abroad too. I never called mexico, mexicans, or canadians enemies. I'm not xenophobic as you declare, I'm very open to other cultures/people/languages/places.

My problem is not with the illegal workers, but lets not forget they are here illegally.
My problem is with the criminal element that sneaks through. Last I heard half the murders in my small town were the result of MS13. While not directly from Mexico, there membership is manily from illegal immigrants. Most of these are from El Salvador and enter the US through the Mexican border. These people generally don't sneak up into Canada first to then enter the US, and thats why I would prefer we secure the southern border first. After that I have no problem with securing the Canadian border. My interst in this is from a perspective of wanting a safer place to live. I realize that they are not the source of all crime, but I would like crime cut wherever possible and I see this a significant source fo the violent crime in my area. Edit: Spelling |

Time for the Mexican government to get their heads outta their asses and start supporting their own people instead of supporting their own corruption.

I can't imagine any fence, including those with watch towers, NVG, etc., effectively stopping anyone determined to cross. They'll go where there's no wall. Or they'll go under it. Or they'll ... who knows. It'll be effective against the average, run of the mill illegal, maybe not even them since many of the illegals come in with help. Can easily fix those by penalizing anyone hiring an illegal. The wall's a waste of time and money as far as I'm concerned that just makes us feel good that we're doing something.

TomK is right...
The mexican nationals are working for someone, but the government doesn't seem to be doing anything about prosecuting these companies. I know that in many cases prosecution might stand to hurt more than just the companies themselves, but the point is that companies are exploiting these workers for cheap labor, and getting away with it. The Republican party are corporate shills too afraid to bite the hand that feeds. putting up a useless fence is just placating concerned citizens. The border guard on the news was explaining that patching the fence in his section of border is a full time job. Thats one long border, how many towers, guards, and fence menders is it going to take to secure?

"No one knows how much the 700-mile (1,125-kilometer) fence will cost, but Congress sent a bill to the White House making a $1.2 billion down payment. A 14-mile (23-kilometer) segment of fence under construction in San Diego is costing $126.5 million."
Anyone want to do the math? That is without delays and cost overruns! Once it is all said and done it is still a goverment project. I love my country but we typically put some idiots in charge of projects like these.

I was actually somewhat surprised to see that this actually went through. I agree here that we cannot build a fence big enough to actually solve the problem. However, I don't think our new fence is a total waste. Surely it will help slow illegal immigration in problem areas along the border. Saying it's for "national security" or has much to do with our "War on Terror" is a bunch of boococky (I do not know what that means) though. We've got the United Arab Emerites guarding 6 of our major points of entry also though.
