The indoor range I go to makes you sign a liability waiver stating that the range is NOT responsible if you shoot yourself or someone else, or if they have to shoot you (as in you pose a danger to others).

When I went there with no experience with guns, they were more than happy to have the assistant range master come out and show me how to load and work the firearm, and stand by as I fired threw the first magazine. They did the same thing for my wife who was firing a revolver.

They have a safety class, but it's not something they force you to have. However, they are "suppose" to make sure you have the pistol purchase permit, or at least someone in your shooting party has it. I don't know that it guarantees anyone knows how to use a gun, but it guarantees more that mentally and lawfully you are allowed to own that gun, and are of age for it. They do make you read a paper of all the rules and regulations that you have to follow. Also, I am positive they ask all people if they have shot there before. I am asked every time I go, and they know I frequent there. If you say no, they explain what to do and what not to do, and make you read the paper, and you sign a log every time you go there.

The guy that owns the range near my house owns two ranges and at the other one, the same thing happened. Someone committed suicide at the other range. It shut both of the ranges down for nearly 5 months because his insurance tripled. He ended up finding insurance through the NRA somehow, but the only thing is you are only allowed to shoot ammo that you buy at the range the same day that you're shooting it.

In either case, that definately sucks man...I'd hate to be there when something like that went down.
If you rent one of their guns, they only allow you to shoot their ammo through it.

While I am not for sure the paper I sign every time I go there, is a liability waver... I haven't read the paper in a while. They only make you read it the first time you go, after that all you do is just sign the book when you go. I bet somewhere in there it a liability waver. I know there are rules and all that in there. I will checkit out next time I go. Was going to go today, but for all I know they may be closed after yesterday.

And yes, the range is an indoor range. And the guys there are also more than happy to show you how to properly use a gun. they also explain if you have any problems, even with your guns, and are unsure what to do to come get them and they will help. They have several NRA certified firearms instructors, so it's not a range run by a couple of people who don't know what they are doing. I'm just curious what actually happened here, will have to wait til the news reports more.

Victim is identified as a 27 year old male from Bellevue, which is a suburb of Omaha. They still don't know what happened, but they are still saying it was a self inflicted would. And that others were in there when it happened, but they aren't sure anyone saw it happen. The range has cameras looking down the range from the side so the guys at the desk can monitor shooters, I'm curious if it recorded it. I know they pay attention to the cameras, because I've seen them call people on doing things they aren't suppose to do, several times.

i agree, although the Gun range is stll liable for anything that happens on their range if they have not implemented any safety factors. like a liability statement that coencies with the "PROPER" safety class. i think more gun ranges and clubs should go to this. my gin club i go to, makes sure you are qualified to handle a firearm before you can shoot there and if you dont, they have an extensive class you have to complete.

remember, SH*T happens. this could well have been an accident, only the dead guy, the tape and God know the truth.

Unfortunately in this day and age of irresponsibility no matter of safety training, classes, waivers, or anything else can stop a lawsuit.

I've shot there. The paper you read and sign each time is both the rules and the liability waiver.

Suicide?

At a range here in Cincinnati about 6 months to a year ago a guy rented a pistol and then shot himself with it. The reports said it was suicide and not accidental. The thing people need to understand is that these people were going to kill themselves with or without a gun.
