Nerve damage following Knee surgery
Hi guys,
I havn't been around for awhile because of some complication following my most recent knee surgery. Following a meniscus transplant, I was paralyzed from the knee down on both my legs(yes even the non-operated leg) for three days. Most of my motor function has returned to my legs but I am now experiencing excruciating nerve pain from my knee to my ankle on my surgery leg. It is very intense, keeping me from sleeping and even shooting. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? What was your outcome? Also, if anybody is for praying, I could use a few right now. Thanks farmer |

What are your doctors saying about this?
I have heard of some strange outcomes from knee surgeries, but never paralysis on the non-operated leg.! I'll make sure to pary for your speedy recovery.

What kind of anesthesia did you have?
How long was the surgery? Do you have back problems? We'll pray for you. Many postoperative nerve problems are temporary, but sadly, not all of them. Five years ago I sent a good friend of the family to an extremely well respected knee surgeon for a knee replacement. For at least a year, she felt like she was walking on pins and needles and though her knee worked great, the irritation of the nerve to her foot was worse than the arthritis. I hope yours recovers. Did they do a spinal on you?I`ve had three knee surgeries with a forth
pending.I`ve always had them put me out.I currently don`t have any cartiledge in my right knee. The doc`s are saying to live with the pain for another 10 years as I am too young for a total replacement. As you can imagine I am not walking as when your bones are rubbing together it not conducive to walking.Man I hope I have better luck than you are having. What is you doc saying about this? I would complain like hell to the doc.Knee pain is a muther. |

The doctor says the problems with my non-surgery leg was caused by the holder used to keep it restrained. The surgery was supposed to be three hours but ended up being six because the doctor made some mistakes. I don't know what anesthesia was used, and I do not have a back problems....yet.

Were they using general anesthesia (you were dreaming of XDs while it all happened), or did they do an epidural block (an injection into the space around your spinal column)? For bilateral leg pain as you describe it my first guess is a clumsily done epidural.

Quick question, how did you guyses knees get like this and how can I avoid it? Anything unusual, undue stress..? I had knee pains from walking on metal decks and transversing ladders all day, and taking round after round of logs in the subs. Its gone now but I don't want to be going through that much surgery when I get older.

Then 10 years later I re-injured it carrying 2 5 gal buckets of concrete. This time it was pulling cat 5 wire in our new corporate office. I would say do your best to not get injured in the first place. |
