DIY Games at the range!

My friend and I stumble on a game that we made purely by making the best situation out of a bad one. We went to the range that usually is not to busy on Saturday night. Just happen to be our luck that a group date came into the range, six couples I think. With the people already in the range we got bump into one lane. I was already shooting my nearly 100-year-old Springfield Stevens single shot bolt 22lr. So we figure just shoot that so we don’t have to unpack the rest of the pistols. So blah blah, and a game came about. Here it is.

· Using only one firearm, you take turns shooting 5 rounds, in less than 1 minute.

· Divide the target into half, and make a grid with six 5-6” square boxes.

· Place that small sticker dot you get from your hi-viz target in the middle of each box.

· Place the target as far back as the range allows, usually indoor 25 yards.

· Then you take turns shooting five rounds, while the none shooter times you and spots the hits.

RULES

· You try to hit as close to that 1” sticker dot, who ever get the closest grouping wins.

· If you end up shooting anywhere in your opponents box, you automatically loose.

· You start shooting when your opponent says go (who is timing unless you get another guy).

My friend when he was spotting started calling my misses turkeys, and chicken dinners! Well this was after we started betting a dollar a heat, you can fit three heats in one target. If your box is 6 to 7 inches square. The money went back and forth for 1 hour, ultimately I lost 9 dollars.

The nine bucks wouldn't bother me...gettin' outshot by my buddy who used my gun would. My friends would never let me live it down.

Sounds like a good idea.

You can also try shooting poker. Click to save as/open and print (PDF).

Sounds like fun! I recently came up with another game I can recommend, too...this arose a few weeks ago when we had a BBQ/shooting party on my personal range.

1. This game works best if you start with about 8 shooters (maybe more).
2. Begin at a ten-yard range. Each competitor shoots six rounds into his own fresh target.
3. Score all the targets, discarding each shooter's worst shot (so you're scoring five shots).
4. The lowest-scoring shooter drops out of the competition. If you have a lot of shooters and not much time, maybe drop the lowest-scoring two shooters.
5. All remaining shooters go again, adding five yards to the previous range (so the second round is at 15 yards).
6. Rinse and repeat, adding 5 yards to the range each time, until there's only one man standing...who is the winner. Great bragging rights!

If you use Wint-O-Green LifeSavers and shoot 'em in complete darkness, they'll flash bright green. No, really. It's called triboluminescence.

And good luck with that shootin-in-complete-darkness part....
