Well im left eye dominant according to the test. I've noticed when I shoot for long periods of time with my left eye being the one shut/squinted it starts to get tired and "jittery" almost like when you holding something for along time and you start getting shaky, well that's what my squinted eye does it gets really hard to hold shut/squinted. Now that I know I'm left eye dominate this might be the reason why my left eye was doing that. Ill try squinting my right eye this time and see if I have that problem any more..

I hope this made sense, its too early...... If you do understand what im saying, has anyone else had this problem?

Did anyone notice this. I tried this a couple of times at different distances with a simliar result. When I put my hands out in front of me and did the test I noticed that sometimes it indicated that I was Left eye dominent and others times I was right. So, with one eye closed, then the other, I tried moving my hands Left:Right:Left a few inches to see what would happen. The test appears to indicate dominance based on how you initially line up your hands to the object your focusing on. I'm guesing that is the point, but with varied results I'm not sure. Keeping both eye's open and looking through the triangle, by moving it to the Left or Right a little I could tell with eye was seeing the object and could see it clearly. Most common tested distance was approx 12 ft.

I would guess that if you are moving your hands side to side, you are not testing dominance anymore. As you move more to one side I would expect that eye to be more dominant. Makes sense to me that the eye directly in front of the object would be given precedence in visual computations. I have no basis for that other than doing as you suggested and keeping both eyes open and moving my hands back and forth out in front of me. Doing that, I can see that the eye that maintains dominance shifts depending on what side my hands move to.

I think that the test is meant to be done with your hands straight out in front of you centered on an object far enough away and centered directly in front of you.

I am a lefty with left eye dominance. It was my first time out at the range yesterday with my 45. I was shooting nice groups... low right

Do you guys close your non dominant eye when shooting? I ended up correcting my point of aim but i was not aiming at the center of the target to hit the center... i was aiming slightly to the left.

I did a similar test at the direction of a rangemaster in 76, when I was a cadet. I was shooting trap for the first time and missed all ten clays. After the test and finding out I was right eye dominant tho I'm a lefty, I hit 9 of 10.

I had my wife just do the test and she can't keep her left eye open and her right eye closed unless she holds her right eye closed with her finger. She is not dominant in either eye tho it turns out. I knew she was special.

Is it common practice to shoot with one eye closed? That's the way I started when I got into handguns (coming from a rifle, it didn't matter much)...but I tried to break that habbit early.

I pretty much just always shoot as if I'm looking at a possible attacker at the other end of my sights. I don't look at the sights, I look at the target with both eyes.

I'm surely not going to be starring at my front sight when an attacker is standing 10 feet infront of me possibly reaching for a knife...so I don't do it at the range.

I'm right eye/hand dominant, but i've found i shoot better left eye/hand, albiet at a much slower pace. Am i just an abnormality? I always catch crap about it at the qualifying range when the deputies let me shoot with them, because i shoot higher scores lefty, but my times and motions are better right handed.
