Mine eats everything except for CCI lead rounds, and it is accurate enough that a co-worker of mine nailed an egg at twenty-five paces with her first shot. I wish she wasn't married.

I own a walther P22 and I like it. It is a smaller pistol, but the grip extension magazines make it pretty easy to hold onto and I ain't a small guy. I own the 5" barrel "target model", which means that it has a 3 1/2" slide and the last 1 1/2" are a compensator that stays in place. Mine recoils straight back in my hand and doesn't have any muzzle rise whatsoever. I have never had any problems whatsoever with the safety and mine has well over 12K rounds through it. The 5" models are a bit more difficult to clean than the 3 1/2" models, because you have to unscrew the compensator each time you clean the pistol, because the slide has to come off of the front. Then you have to use a little tool to get the recoil spring in, but it's not hard at all. It comes with some different back straps so you can adjust the grip, and different widths and heights of the front sight, so you can adjust it to how you prefer also. The older magazines in the pistol did tend to jam or nosedive the first round, I haven't had any problems with it. It's a gun that is pretty tight and doesnt' necessarily like to shoot excessively dirty, I clean mine often, but have never had any problems if I put less than 500 rounds at a time through it. I'm the kind of guy that comes home and cleans my XD after every range session, not because it necessarily needs it, but because I like to clean it and handle it. Something to be noted, if you have a compensated model and are taking the compensator off the first time, make sure that you unscrew the very small allen screw in the top so that you don't strip out the little dimple in the barrel that helps hold it in place. Also make sure you put the dimple right side up and push the barrel all the way in, so the barrel nut goes all the way down. My dad owns several Mark pistols, they're great and more accurate, but I still like my P22 better. It's just a fun little plinking pistol that feels great and runs good, and it IS plenty accurate, I assure you.

First post in the forum. Hopefully one of many to come.
I have a P22 myself, or rather my wife does. We have fired several hundred rounds through it and have had no issues with it whatsoever. I do know it likes a hot load, e.g. CCI Mini-Mags or Velocitor ammo work extremely well. I picked it up at the gun store and instantly loved the way it felt in my hand. Had to have it. thanks Knight,Tomcat and everyone.I will take another look at the Walther and not give up on it. I know there are some excellent 22s out there.I'm not in a big hurry. I do want the pistol I get to feel good. I have small hands, not freaky, but not big. When I talk to the guys at the gun store I know there trying to be helpful but some times I think there pulling my chain since I know Jack about guns. Anyway I guess every model has it's quirks, except the XD.

Dissenting Voice
I guess I'll have to be the dissenting voice. I did this .22 auto search a few years back and looked at all of them you're probably looking at. The Walther was just as expensive as all the others I looked at, and like someone else said, it looked like it was made for a kid to shoot. It also felt very cheap and plastic. I always use the same gunshop, and trust opinions from the employees there, and the owner told me that some regular customers were having problems (FTE FTF, etc.) with them.
I looked at the sig mosquito, and honestly I can't remember why I didn't like that one, but I didn't. Something about the location of the safety, maybe. So, I had it narrowed down to a buckmark or a mark III, both of which I knew were excellent guns. They both felt good in my hands, and I couldn't decide. Then my good friend, gunsmith, and fellow IDPA shooter got fed up with his Ruger that he had built to shoot bowling pin matches and decided to sell it. I paid a lot more, because it is stainless and had a complete trigger teardown and rework, and a comp to add weight, but it was definetly worth it. I believe that the ruger magazines are a bit cheaper too, which is important to me because I always buy a lot of them, but I could be wrong about that. The different parts and grips are also cheaper and easier to get ahold of for the Ruger if you want to modify it, if I remember right. This has to be the best .22 auto ever built. PM me if you want to know more about it or see pics. |

Supposedly there was a problem in the other version P22 magazine followers that later resolved a lot of the FTE's in the P22. I like it and I want one, but I just shelled out a lot of money for a 1911.
