But I'm sure that you are already well aware of this since you are considering carrying.
I'd sure like to see where you get your facts from.

My wife was totally against my having guns or carrying. I didn't convince her of anything. I just went out and bought what I wanted and that was that. A few weeks later she was bragging to her mother about how safe I was.

Maybe find another female that has her CCW and have her talk to your wife.

While it may be true that man made objects can fail, guns rarely fail. You hear about accidental discharge all the time. "I was just holding the gun and it went off". Most people don't even know they pulled the trigger, or something else causing the gun to go off. Negiligent discharges are almost always what they are when a gun goes off unexpectedly. Media however says these are all accidental discharges, which is false.

And scaring the sh!t out of her? I don't know about you, but I'd rather have someone tell me the truth, than blow smoke up my butt and hide the truth from me. She's wanting to know why he wants to carry, I think it is the responsible thing to tell her exactly why. If she cannot understand the dangers out there, how can she comprehend why anyone would choose to carry a gun to protect themselves against those dangers?

The truth may scare someone, but hiding the truth from them leaves them unaware. If she cannot see that some day it may come down to either you're dead, or the other guy is dead, then she will never get it.

And cops may wear their guns on the outside 24/7, and have more experience handling their gun. But it all boils down to whether or not people pay attention to the safety rules. Forgetting you have a gun on, would be pretty hard to do when you can feel it against your body. Carrying concealed isn't going to make you more likely to have a negligent discharge. Your disobeying the safety rules will, however.

I honestly do think it just comes down to the fact that the law allows him to carry a gun concealed is he passes the tests, and if he passes it's his call whether or not he carries. When it comes to safety, I think it's that individuals call whether or not they practice certain measures to ensure their safety. If one wants to carry a gun legally, it's nobody else's place to tell them they can't. I get tired of hearing about people worrying about what significant others are going to think about certain things. Unless it's something morally wrong, very dangerous, or something that can get you in trouble, then I think the other has no business saying no. Now if the guy had people he hated, and got into fights with them all the time, i can see her not wanting him to carry because he's out starting crap with people. But simply wanting to be prepared for the worst case scenerio, that's his choice if you ask me. It's not to say he shouldn't car about her feelings on the matter, but just because someone doesn't like something, does not mean that each and every time the person has to bow to their demands. It's a personal safety matter, plain and simple and a choice that I believe is his.

So he's not really trying to talk her into it, rather ease her mind about him carrying. Maybe it's just me but I don't think that telling her any more about how dangerous it is out there is going to do it, no smokeblowing necessary.

Why don't you get a friend of yours to put on a ski mask and "break in" to your house when she's around and give her a nice scare before leaving? She'll be asking you to buy her a gun after that. Gawd, am I the only thinker on here?!

My wife was uncomfortable with my carrying, till we broke down along a long stretch of rural highway very late at night. After that experience, she is VERY glad that I carry, and she sometimes does to!

No offense taken...just wanted to make sure I wasn't misunderstood.
