tom-newxd40fun
We all know, or many of us do anyway, that forum member xd40fun, aka Tom, has some views and thoughts that are, how shall we say, crazy? Or to quote Spock, "illogical".
Thus, whenever Tom does post something, he generally gets bashed, really hard. I know I have taken part in some of this bashing in my own manner. One thing that you have to admire about Tom, is he keeps coming back for more. Say what you want about him, but he does have a firm belief that he is right, and well, most everybody else on this forum is , wrong. And, he keeps coming back for more, and more, and more. That is conviction in one's beliefs. period. So, while we may not agree with him, we should at least respect him in his conviction of his thoughts regarding politics and whatever else spews forth from his mouth, be it sweet or bitter sounding. With that, I suggest that we at least see if we can get at least 25 forum members to agree that Tom should be honored with the meaningless distinction of "XD Talk Forum Member with the most illogical yet strongly entrenched beliefs who keeps on going no matter how badly his gets his axx kicked". All those in favor, please chime in. No Tom, you cannot vote here. No I am not on any sort of medication nor am I drunk. Last edited by tec; 09-21-2006 at 05:03 PM. |

Hey, every village needs an idiot...
EDITED TO ADD: Even though I vote the same way he does, our views could not be further apart. I vote for Tom, even if he is fustrating.

Okay I'll Bite...
First of all I'm not going to bash or endorse anyone here. People on this forum are...just that...people on this forum. When confronted with the undeniable anonymity of an internet environment everyone portrays a slightly different picture of themselves than they truly are, so I can't really pass judgement on any individual based on their politico-social rantings or lack-thereof. The only people I can say anything about on this forum are the two I've met in person, and both of them seemed to be level headed, pleasant, intelligent individuals.
That being said, there are a few issues you bring up here. Yes, from my limited time in the politcal section I can see that Tom believes he's right and that anyone that disagrees with him is wrong. In that way he is like most people are. Is this an admirable trait? Sometimes. Standing one's ground on an argument that you are particularly fond of is admirable in some circumstances as long as you are willing to accept the possibility that MAYBE the other person has a reasonable point of view as well. In essence everyone that has a particular viewpoint they are willing to express in a public forum believes that they are right and that the opposing viewpoint is wrong, hence the combobulated situation in the political section. You go to the political section, you post your viewpoint, someone else posts his viewpoint, you say he's dumb, he says you're dumb and the exchange ends. Has anyone learned anything, no... other than that the other guy thinks you're a neo-conservative fascist crack-job and you think he's a socialist pinko panty-waisted sissy boy. If Person A was not already sound in their opinion they probably wouldn't bother to post it for Person B to look at, furthermore if Person B didn't already have a sound opinion they probably wouldn't even click the link to look at person A's poorly spewed jibberish. Now, there are rare examples when both parties come into a political, social, religious or other discussions with their minds open to new ideas, but these examples are few and far between. This is exactly the reason I don't open political discussion with people who have their minds set on gun control....I know I'm never going to help them understand my point of view because in their mind I'm crazy for even OWNING a firearm. I just look at them, smile, shrug and say "well I'm glad that you're NOT the one that gets to decide"

I am not the best with composing words, or math for that matter, so maybe my message got a little shady. What I am trying to say is, While we may not agree with Tom's viewpoints, We should at least give Tom some credit for sticking with it under adverse conditions here on the forum. In the posts that I read, it did seem that Tom was a very good sport about the ribbing he took and didn't lash out at people, or become rude or beligerent.
Hell, I'll give the man a vote.
