My dryer just stopped - help??

So I was doing some laundry over the weekend, washing and drying a few loads. Suddenly my dryer stops about 5 minutes early before the cycle is done.

Thought maybe it was the circuit breaker. Went to the basement and reset it. Still nothing.

I tried different cycles, hit the start button... nothing.

The door closed sensor is working. The start button doesn't seem to be any "different" to indicate something's not right. I have electricity. The vent was venting just fine.

The instruction manual's troubleshooting list is a joke, but I did try everything.

Anyone have a similar problem w/ their dryer? Are there any internal fuses in the dryer I could check?

It's a Whirlpool Heavy Duty Extra Large Capacity electric dryer. Model number LER4634EQ2. I've had it since 1998. Was it just its time to die??

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!!

UNPLUG THE DRYER FIRST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First make sure you have 220 to the dryer. If so on the back of the dryer behind the grey panel there is a thermal fuse. With the grey panel off and looking at the back of the dryer you will see along the left side the duct for the lint screen. Near the bottom of this duct just to the right of it is a white fuse. It is thin and about 1 inch long. Just one screw holding it in. There are 2 wires going to it. I would first jump these 2 wires together to confirm that is the problem. Make sure that the wires don't curl back and ground out to anything. Use electrical tape to be sure. Then plug the dryer back in and try a restart. If that does it they do sometimes trip for no reason. Sometimes it's because the element grounds itself and ignores the operating T-stat. Just run to the parts store and get another fuse and you'll probably be OK. If not let me know.

Same thing just happend to my wife and I, a gas Maytag dryer in our case. The motor was seized up, so the nice repair guy put in a brand new motor just for us. Of course the dryer is 10 years old, so we had to pay for the nice new motor, but we've got dry undies once again.

Nothing worse than soggy undies.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe it has a sensor for detecting a full lint trap. Have you cleaned it lately?

I clean it out each time it dries a load of clothes.

Kudos to bobert1 !!! This was exactly the problem, and it was exactly where he said it was, and held on exactly with one screw. I did what you suggested, and it turns out that it IS the fuse. I jumped the dryer without the fuse and it fired right up!

Thanks again!!

Now I just have to figure out WHO carries such a fuse....
