Thanks again!!

Now I just have to figure out WHO carries such a fuse....
Repairclinic.com sells parts, if you can't find it local.

Man, I didn't know Springfield made dryers! Which model do you have (tactical, service, commercial)? Is the finish on the drum any better than what they put on their XD line?

I've heard these pistols called "heaters". Guess they've expanded the line......

Keep an eye on your dryer for a while - something caused that fuse to blow.

Another source for parts, in case you cannot find it
local -

http://www.partstore.com/Default.aspx

I have used this online resource on two occassions
and have had good experiences.

The fuse link should be a common item for you to
find however.

bd also has made a very good suggestion. If the
same thing happens again, you have other problems
to contend with. If that would be the case, give
another holler!

Thanks everyone for your further suggestions. I'll try to call a few local places near my house to see if they sell fuses of this type. If not, I'll try the links you posted.

And thanks bd for the word of caution. I'll keep an eye on it.

I did get that dryer (and washer) back in 1998 as a housewarming gift. So, being 8 years old and never having a problem until a fuse, I think that's doing pretty well. Especially after it has seen enough clothing thrown at it to make other dryers cry. Over the years, it has handled 2 adults' and 3 kids' worth of clothing. Including bed spreads, oversized towels, many thick blankets, etc. It's a heavy duty, so it would always get large loads tossed into it, too. If it only needed a fuse after all this time, then I'm happy.

But I will still watch it. It's true: something made the fuse go in the first place.

Thanks again everybody!!! You guys rule!

In case anyone is still following this story, I was able to find the fuse at a local appliance store. This little a$$ed fuse cost $17.00!!!

but, once I install it, all should be better in the laundry world.

Thanks again for everyone's input!!

That's not a bad price considering the dryer's amp load.

First make sure you have 220 to the dryer. If so on the back of the dryer behind the grey panel there is a thermal fuse. With the grey panel off and looking at the back of the dryer you will see along the left side the duct for the lint screen. Near the bottom of this duct just to the right of it is a white fuse. It is thin and about 1 inch long. Just one screw holding it in. There are 2 wires going to it. I would first jump these 2 wires together to confirm that is the problem. Make sure that the wires don't curl back and ground out to anything. Use electrical tape to be sure. Then plug the dryer back in and try a restart. If that does it they do sometimes trip for no reason. Sometimes it's because the element grounds itself and ignores the operating T-stat. Just run to the parts store and get another fuse and you'll probably be OK. If not let me know.
Damn!

Hey, I've got a faulty Quantum Flux Capaciter that requires 1.21 gigawatts of electricity, any quick fixes?

You're not thinking fourth-dimensionally!
