Wow...you're only getting 16mpg from that Subie? My V-8 Tundra gets that kind of mileage, but its big and heavy and has a very thirsty V-8, so it has an excuse for crappy mileage. My aging 91 Volvo also gets better than that as well.

Either you have a very heavy foot or theres something really wrong there. Check your O2 sensor. Is your Check Engine light on?

I thought those little cars got better mileage than that.

PS - yes, if you can, take that big wing off the back and if there was any way to do away with that hood scoop, those cars would actually be very atractive.

The big wing is ok, in my opinion, but Im definitely not wild about it. The hood scoop is useful though, and I rode with someone with an otherwise stock STi with a front mount intercooler, and the lag was awful.

I dont have a check engine light, I just have an extremely heavy foot I can get 19-20 in the city, but does that mean I want to? Absolutely not! The regular WRX does get really good gas mileage, much better than the 2.0 engines (they upgraded to 2.5 for the 2006 model year). The 2.0's were gas hogs for whatever reason. The STi Ive got is worse because it has a 6 speed, bigger turbo, a more agressive tune, and it begs to be driven. My mileage has actually improved though since Ive changed the exhaust and gone to Stage 2.

Also, my fiancee has a Legacy SE with the 2.5 in it, and it gets 28ish in the city, and 38 on the highway. Coming from the sticker of 23/30, I would say Subaru rated it conservatively. For being a 4cyl NA engine, its no slouch, but its not my STi either.

Taurus SHO forum: Newbie with some questions, do I need to remove the child safety seat at the track? Is that oil supposed to be in the spark plug wells? Does your dealer charge 1500 to change the plugs too? Heard a bang and now there's a hole in the transmission, is this normal?

4cyl engine, less displacement, less air needed, less gas used= better gas mileage

4cyl turbo engine, less displacement but the air intake is compressed, more air, more gas needed for the a/f mixture= less gas mileage. A lot of people think that all 4 cyl engines get really good gas mileage...which isnt the case when they are performance based.

The wing is easily swapped out with a regular impreza or a WRX (im not a big fan of it either), but hoodscoop is functional, which means to remove it you would need a front mounted intercooler (not very effective for subarus because of where the turbo is located) or some type of custom watercooled system.

I get 18-20 city miles in the 2.0ltr WRX (stage 2 about 300hp@16psi). I've never heard of the 2.0 WRX getting worse mileage than the 2.5, the 2.5 is actually rated at slightly worse for mpg (20/27 vs. 20/26 respectively, and the STi is at 18/24). Makes sense, same turbo but 25% larger displacement to fill.

how do you mean? They are essentially identical. The 06 got a wider wheels and a bit thicker brakes, an updated DCCD, and an updated center diff, but thats it as far as performance goes. They added a bunch of cosmetic things that added weight...rear diffuser, roof spoiler, side spoilers, projecter headlamps etc.

Actually the few people I know that have 06's are getting 24/30 for the most part, plus or minus 2 mpg. Id say that isnt bad...

thats good-- i can get 30 on the highway, I just never drive on the highway. Plus I drive fast-- I shift at like 4 or 5k at least unless I am in a neighborhood or something. Who wants to drive a car like this slow...you can't have good mileage and good peformance at the same time.

Haha, I know. It just begs to be driven hard...
