Stay with the plumber line, if it's what you like. I would view the cable position as temporary, I know they are around here, most of the cable guys are 25 and under. The company I whore myself out to as a sub for plumbing is a restoration company, they rebuild after fires/floods, etc. While work may get slow at times, they generally always have work, especially for the plumber. The company generally does not want to loose the plumber, so they always find work for them when things are slow, but at this company, that hasn't been needed in the last two years.

Oh, and Paul . If you work 42 hours this week, do you think you will get paid for those hours this week? How can payroll know what hours you worked this week and pay you this week? They can't, they don't. You get your money, but a week or two or three weeks behind what you work, depending on how you set it up.

So if they pay every two weeks, say, 09-08-06 and 09-22-06 and 10-06-06, and you start on 09-18-06, you just started mid pay period and will be paid on 10-06-06 for all time worked from 09-18-06 to 09-22-06.

It is illegal to withhold pay from an employee. And it would make most accountants heads spin trying to figure out how to classify that and on what line item to place it in the journals. Not gonna happen. (unless it's a company with no morals and not afraid of the law by means of intimidating the employees to keep their mouths shut.)

Hot on the left, cold on the right, crap runs downhill-unless you gotta grinder pump....

turd chasing is better than any cable job. You can even specialize later on -boiler maker, pipe welder, sprinklers, or just about anything that has to do with 'water' and some form of piping.

Our pay week starts on Thurs and ends on Wed.....

Being a journeyman or master plumber can be an actual career. A cable technician will have you crawling in dirty old attics or basements stringing cable in the worst weather. A plumber will make a lot more money over the long haul...

Stick with the plumbing thing - always in demand, in fact, probably increasing in demand as population grows, but only if you enjoy it, and someday, maybe it will be yours.

Working for Charter, you'll just be a tiny cog in a very big wheel...

That is how they do it for us. They withhold one week until you leave and you get that week of pay plus whatever hours
you have coming for the final week you work.
I guess it helps, it is nice to have a larger check when you leave.

Good Luck, I can only imagine the tricks and jokes to come as the regulars "Break -In" the new guy.

No

They could, but most don't want to.

Hey, I'm not suggesting you should go to jail. From your post you are actually holding up to two weeks pay at times. Most trades get paid weekly where I live. Perhaps this is a matter of semantics.

Don't rely on the Union for your retirement!
