will 220v fry my laptop?!!!?

ok, question for electrical experts. we know they use 220v outlets overseas. i want to take my psp and my laptop without frying them. first i need an outlet adapter i know, but do i need an adapter also with a voltage regulator ? even for electronic devices with a built in 120-240 transformer pack on the plug? (such as laptop coords and psp coords). i assume since the pack on my laptop coord/charger says "input 120-240" it will automatically regulate the current thus not frying my laptop? i know u neeed the rugulator on device swithout the built in tranformer on the coord such as a dvd player etc.

thanks in advance.

I was in Iraq and I had to use 220V for my laptop since the local army contractor for generators in Kuwait only had 220V units. I experienced no problems at all. If you look on the power converter pack for the laptop it should say what the voltage range is. All you would need then is a plug adapter.

On other electronics you may see a switch that allows you to choose 120V or 220V power source. If not, then you need a 220V to 120V converter.

Just remember you have to plug it in with your left hand,
while standing on your right foot.

To be extra cautious you might bring a surge protector along as well, just to play it safe.

Nope, don't bring a surge suppressor along...instead, buy one when you get there. The kind you plug directly into the wall, and then plug a device into it, when bought in the U.S. is typically able to handle ONLY 120 V. Lemme tell ya about the first time I plugged one'a them babies into a furrin 220 V outlet...holy crap did it ever explode in a ball of flame! The hotel maid was not amused by the charred mark running all the way up the wall, and I kinda missed my eyebrows for a while...

As others have already said, most laptop chargers nowadays are rated for 100 - 240 V; you'll be fine if yours is. But the surge suppressor is a completely different story.

Well, I got a chance to shoot that old P220 this weekend, and I can verify that that will fry your laptop!
