Just thought of something today, and just tried it out a few minutes ago.
Something that seems to help in overcoming a flinch is shooting a cap gun. It's close enough to a real gun to simulate shooting, but can be done without a trip to the range. Cheap, too, which is a major plus. When I tried it I managed to keep my eyes open about 1/2 to 2/3 of the time. If anybdoy else is having flinching problems (and I suppose this could help with other types of flinching as well) you might want to try this out. I've also ordered some snap caps and hopefully those will also help (dry fire practice, interchanging with real shells). I'll keep this thread updated as I progress. Thanks again for all the help.

Sorry to post such pointless drivel, but I said I'd keep this updated--I guess it's worth it if it helps somebody else at some point, right?
I've been practicing by dry-firing an air gun, and when I went shooting tonight (for the first time in a while) I did very good. Shooting .22s and .38s out of a pistol, I only closed my eyes maybe 1/4 of the time, wheras with the .22 rifle I flinched maybe 1/3 of the time, mostly just at first. It was a very encouraging range session. Thanks again for all the help...
