For those of you who do not know, Blow fish is a very poisonous fish and an overseas (and maybe NYC) delicacy. If not properly prepared you'll be eating your last supper.

Sidearm pitchers have been around forever. Jim Bunning, Sid Fernandez, Dan Quisenberry, Kent Tekulve come to mind as guys I watched. Walter Johnson pitched sidearm in the old days and was pretty much the Roger Clemens or Nolan Ryan of his day as far as strike-outs. I pitched sidearm in Little League and high school and still do playing stickball. No big deal. Like Maverick, I was always able to get more velocity pitching sidearm (less accuracy though, side to side). Also for most kids, a sidearm delivery is an easier way to get a ball to break the opposite way of a curve ball. For me, it was far less stressful on my arm than trying to throw a back-up curve (screwball). In fact it was just easier on my arm than any other kind of breaking ball. Peace, D.

According to USA Today (http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/salaries/totalpayroll.aspx?year=2006), the Marlins have the lowest team salary in baseball at just below $15,000,000. Yet they are still in the hunt for the wild card. Those numbers are a little bit wrong since they are the numbers for the beginning of the year and don't represent the Yankees acquisition of Bobby Abreu, the signing of Roger Clemens by the Astros, etc, etc. But the Marlins haven't made any huge moves this season, so their salary is still way below even the Devil Rays. For quick comparison, the leading National League team salaries are the NYM @ $101 mil, LAD @ $98.5 mil, STL @ $88.9 mil, and Wild Card leading SD @ $69.9 mil. It is very possible that the $15 mil FLA Marlins end up playing these teams in October.

Also concerning the Marlins: they may have developed the best strategy for small-market teams.
Everyone got mad after they sold off all the talent after the first World Series win...ok, rightly so. But doing that allowed the team to stockpile young talent. Low and behold, a few years later, they have a few players developed, and add some veterans to the mix, and win it again. Guess what? They stick to the plan, and sell off any high-priced players. Now they're competing for the wild-card with the lowest team salary in baseball. I'm not sure they'll do it this year, but next year they could be really good, especially if they add a couple players at the right time, like they did in their two previous World Series years.
