you won't destroy your rotator cup as fast throwing side arm either. I was a catcher all through school and if the runner steals second the pitcher better duck because the ball will be thrown side arm and only be about 3' off the ground. Major league ball is ruled by the wallet, not by a rule book. Get above college ball and it all sucks......its only for entertainment anyway-just like 'pro' wrestling

Anyway, if you read my first response, all I did was correct him on the history pitchers throwing from a sidearm slot or lower, then ask what the "corporate" comment to do with it. But OEFM doesn't like to be corrected. So it continued.

I still don't get where some of these guys get off complaining about Tom.

EDITED TO ADD:

I love baseball, every level, but I do agree that there is something pure and special about minor-league baseball that MLB has lost. The players are playing for the opportunity to do what they love, to make it to the next level, not for the paycheck that's more than the GDP of most small nations. We have the Braves Double-A affiliate here in town, and we've gone with friends several times this season. Tickets are cheap, it's a nice new park (made possible by a corporate sponsor, no less), with good food and decent beer.
Damn, sorry I hurt your itty bitty feelings by saying the word cor.... OOPS! Almost said it again.

Thanks to those here who could make realistic replies to my question.

Well, I just asked the pro baseball watcher (my wife) to see what she had to say about sidewinders and what they were doing in last nights game. I highly suspect she's been watching baseball since before some of the people here figured out what diapers were. Her first reaction was "is this a joke?". When I told her I was not joking she said "is that legal?". Teach her to go to bed before a game is over.

I now return you to your evil corporate sponsors.

Eh? Did I claim my feelings were hurt? If that's the impression I gave, then please be assured my feelings are intact and healthy. You have every right to complain about the evil corporate culture whenever you want, but you don't have the right to do it without someone replying.

I'm sorry for my "unrealistic" replies. Oh wait, no I'm not. I answered your question, didn't call you names or anything. You repeated your uninformed opinion, so I provided more information. Still your uninformed opinion continued.

Have her check out the links I provided, since you apparently didn't. Maybe she'll remember Dan Quisenberry's fine career as a submarine relief pitcher.

You made unrealistic reply's? Tell me it's not so. You didn't call me any names. I felt so unwanted... and maybe just a little dirty.

What's that old saying? Oh, ya. (before your time) Hit me, beat me, call me dirty names, I love it.

Well, you are fat. And you have one eye. And you're a man.

Other than that, you're ok.

Enough mushy stuff, I'm gonna go eat some sushi.

but you will shred your elbow(throwing sub) just as fast as you would tear your rc(throwing overhand). "MLB is ruled by the wallet". That is the dumbest thing I've herd all week. Please give a good valid example on this?

Whens the last time a player has not sued for royalties if his name was used to showcase a product. Refuse to play if the money wasn't right.....mmmm remeber the 'players union strike'.......use drugs, admit to it, and still play ball. Very few players I feel have a true love for the game....not just baseball but most sports. Remember that stupid 'homerun race'.....its all about $$$ and nothing else. the days of Catfish Hunter are long gone, time is money and a very few of these players will give as much as they get.

But all of the stuff you just said is pretty much all popular sports now whether it be baseball, basketball, or football. They do get paid a lot of money, but for the most part they all know they are very fortunate to be in the position they're in, mainly because it usually takes a really long time to be successful in the Majors. There are very few who aren't in it for the love of the game which I think is obvious since they play 162+ games per year, which is 10x the amount that the NFL players play.

Unfortunately, the ones that are in it for the money/records do get most of the attention. That's why you never really hear about the classy teams like the Cardinals, Astros, Marlins, A's, Twins, etc, etc. The only news you really hear about in baseball nowadays is either negative press about the Bonds situation or a report on the latest from the Red Sox/Yankee front offices.

I encourage you to watch an episode of "This Week In Baseball" on Fox. They do a good job of showing the heart of teams rather than just the box scores. I wish I could tell you when they aired those.

Baseball is a great sport, but it requires a ton of background knowledge to really respect it. And it's one of the few sports nowadays where people can actually be properly rewarded for contributing to the success of a team since there isn't a salary cap.

I remember when I followed baseball more closely and played as a kid. There was a Yankees sidewinder and he was the first one I saw. It is bizarre looking if you haven't seen it before. I used to pitch and my Dad would not let me try it. He said it put too much stress on the elbow. It probably wasn't true and one of those...ole husband tales???

Oh well, I think my first memory of them was during the Carter disaster years. Regardless, I'm sure Bush's oil corporate America was to blame.
