Where to shoot in Ann Arbor?

I just moved up here from AZ. I plan on going up to the Brighton State Rec Area next month, probably popping some squirrels. Is there a trap/skeet range around? And where do people go to shoot their XDs? This town doesn't seem too gun friendly to me...

Here's a link to a club that does allow public access. I've shot the sporting clays there a couple of times. Never got onto the ranges but give em a call and ck it out.

This one is south of Ann Arbor, don't know on public access but give em a ring.

Round Lake is a good DNR range.

Raccoon Hunters in Romulus is a great club for Practical Shooting.

That's Island Lake, if we're talking about the same place. The pistol/rifle range is DNR run, but they also have a private run sporting clays/skeet/trap there. I believe the pistol/rifle ranges are 25/50/100yd. Site is http://www.islandlakeshootingrange.com

Another public range thats not too far from AA is in Dexter, I think it's called Mill Creek Sports. It's a small indoor range with maybe six lanes.

There's a private club near Ann Arbor, the Tri County Sportsmans League. A couple people I work with are members here but I've never been there. Web site is here: http://tcsl.org

There's also the Whitmore Lake Rod & Gun Club that's off M36, so that's probably 15-20min north on US23 from AA, but not too far either. I am pretty sure that's a private club as well, but I couldn't find any info on it.

Like others have suggested, Island Lake DNR range is good for rifle and trap/skeet (and handgun, if you are so inclined). I personally am not interested in shooting handgun at any distance greater than 25 yards. At this time of the year the range is popular with people sighting in their hunting rifles, so go early in the day.

As for gun friendliness, I don't think A2 is any better or worse than the rest of Michigan. I spent my college years being a Wolverine, didn't feel much difference. Perhaps the state as a whole is not as liberal with guns as say, AZ, and consequently gives you the impression of less gun friendly. Because I have also known people who moved here from Chicago who say this is such a gun friendly state!

There has been some significant changes over the past two weeks involving Raccoon Hunters. Since I have not confirmed all of the details, I will limit my current comments to indicate that it is a Private Club that is open to the public for IDPA Practice on Wednesday evenings ($5 fee) and hosts IDPA sanctioned matches. Their site is http://www.raccoonhunters.org/

Livingston Gun Club in Brighton is another private club in the area that is open to the public for various events, including USPSA handgun, USPSA 3-Gun, GSSF, and Steel matches. Their site is http://www.livingstongunclub.org/

link523 already mentioned FiringLine in Westland ( http://www.firinglineguns.com/ ). 25-yard indoor range and gun shop (shoot me a PM for more info if needed). There are also one or two indoor ranges in Taylor.

Island Lake is probably the best scattergun facility in Michigan.

Livingston Conservation and Sports Association ( http://www.lcsa.info/ ) is another private club with assorted public offerings.
