Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, E Washington, E Oregon are my top five. Gun friendly, public land still accessible to camp, fish and hunt, good growing season, lower population densities.

Colorado, well, lots of liberals here in the larger urban areas. Small towns are pretty cool, however. I am in Denver (city and county) and I did get my CWP, as it is a "shall issue" state. Although, you get in the same database as the bad guys, so when a cop runs your license-they know you have a permit.
At any rate, I hope things work out for you.

Texas has a bunch of pansies.
New Mexico FTW.
(i'm sorta biased...a lot)

Idaho
- Governor's office: Republican Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter is a "life-long member of the NRA," said his spokesman Jon Hanian, adding he doesn't know of any pending gun-control legislation.
- Legislature: Gun control is not on the legislative agenda, said Sen. Brent Hill, president pro tempore, referring to the GOP-controlled Legislature. He said the lawmakers will instead look at funding for mental health care.

I will throw Iowa into the mix. Shall issue, only gun free zones are post offices and schools. Private businesses can post signs, but they don't have force of law so if they find out all they can do is ask you to leave.

Say what you will; take a look at Arizona's state Legislative History, our State leads in expanding 2A Rights. Besides the last time I checked the ATF is a Federal LE Agency, not an AZ State LE Agency!!! It was the Feds that walked the Guns, not AZ State or County LEOS!!!
C'mon, when a State has a Town Named "TOMBSTONE", you can't get more Pro-2A then that.
If you want the max 2A Freedom, AZ is the place to Be!!!! Don't hate, Migrate!!

I will agree with Iowa, except for the lack of a castle doctrine or stand your ground law. Also the rather liberal nature of the Iowa courts means gun owners have to be very very careful not to become the suspect instead of the victim.
