Accidental shooting of a child.

Let this be a reminder to all to verifly who/what your target is before pulling the trigger.

that's wierd. if i heard something, the last thing i would think is that it was an intruder. I'd think animal, my kids, slight earthquake, everything first. the guy must feel like an idiot.

And he is protecting the public? Idiot.

#1 gun under pillow!?

#2 it would be real hard to convince a jury the dark shape the size of a 9 year old made you in fear for your life

#3 didn't identify his target...or better yet whats behind the target.

Sorry, I do not buy the man's story.

#1 - 9 year old in the house and a .40 under the pillow? How many children have to get shot before people secure their weapons? Ours all have trigger locks except for the home defense weapons under the bed. They are secured in quick opening safes. Our 3 children have come into our bedroom at all hours of the night. Not once have we ever pointed our weapons at them.

#2 - Identify your target. A 9 year old does not look like an adult. This guy was shooting at shadows.

Sorry, his story does not pass the smell test to me.

What ever happen to target ID, if it would have been me, I would be in jail with the book been thrown at me, that is just criminaly stupid, I could see it happening if he and his wife were the only ones in the house, but having kids in the house?

Disagree with #1. My dad had them around when we were kids, I never touched them, neither did my sister. No locks, no safe, nothing. Shotgun leaning right beside the bed in plain view. I intend to teach my kids the way he taught me...

Definitely agree on #2 though.
