Nikon, what pattern: Bad Glocks, negligence on the officer's behalf or both. Just trying to figure out which possible pattern you are referring to. Inquiring minds want to know.

Also, would he fall into that 70%.....oops...I forgot you reduced it...60% group.

no ive just noticed that it seems all ND's involving cops, are with glocks.

That's likely because over 70% of l.e. in the U.S. use Glocks. The standards for becoming l.e. aren't universal. You can find highly-intelligent well-trained cops, but you can find 80-I.Q. stumblebums, also.

This is why I de-chamber my XD whenever I take it off my hip. Everyone has their own safety levels they're comfortable with. Personally, I carry my gun all evening until I go to sleep, then I take it out of its hip holster, drop the mag, clear the chamber, insert the chamber round into the mag (I carry a 16 round mag in the gun with 15 in the mag), reinsert the mag and holster the weapon. It sleeps beside me on the nightstand. In the morning, I put on the holster, chamber the round, do a press check, holster the XD and I'm off.

When I carry my snubbie, it DOES stay loaded at night, but I keep it in a wooden box on my nightstand. I'm confident I wouldn't reach over, undo the latch, pull out the gun and then arbitrarily pull the trigger while asleep.

I was just about to say that. Not only are Glocks in the hands of a very high number of LEO's, but they are also a highly recognized name brand that many non experienced shooters gravitate toward.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Glocks (I'll never have a .40 glock, but that's just paranoia), just a lot of them out there.

the gun i carry (xd 40 service right now) stays in a secure location, locked up, when im sleeping, which is the only time it is not on me. it stays this was loaded, round in chamber.

i have 2 1911's around my bed area that take some consciousness to get to. both are loaded with 8 round mags, no rounds in chambers. one also wears an m3 weapon light. this means that i would have to be asleep, move myself to get to one of the pistols, and then rack the slide before shooting myself or something else. i dont think thats gonna happen.

i think that 3 locked doors between me and the outside world will most likely give me plenty of time to wake up and rack the slide in a givin situation. there will always be extreme circumstances tho, i know i know.

Man, stories like this really tick me off. I invest a lot of time and energy educating my friends to understand that guns aren't really accidents looking for a place to happen...educate 'em in gun safety, then invite them down to my range and get 'em hooked on shootin'...and because they know I'm a pretty moderate-to-liberal kinda guy I can get that message across to folks who would just tune out yer average NRA member. Then some doofus like this poor dope...who, as a LEO, should dang well know better...goes and shoots hisself due to inexcusable carelessness - not to mention putting the life of an innocent 17-year-old at risk, too. In a fraction of a second he undoes all the good I can do in a year. Grrrrrr.

The really annoying part is, I suspect there more'n likely will be no legal consequences. If you wreck a car due to your own negligence you will dang sure get a ticket, end up in court, and get fined, at a minimum. But if it's a gun instead of a car, too often the dope gets a pat on the back and is made to sound like some kinda frickin hero. I just think we need to be a lot more intolerant of NDs. A LOT more intolerant. Go to sleep in a tent, beside an innocent kid, with a gun rattlin' around loose in there, a gun with no meaningful safeties, and with one in the pipe, for goodness sakes...if that ain't morally negligent I guess I don't know what is. It should be criminally negligent, too.
