no reciprocity yet. The bill wouldn't have even passed had that been written in it, at least I don't think so. But, at least officials are looking to the future with at least making the class more like other states hopefully, which will allow us to accept other states permits, and they accept ours, since training will be similar. We're going to work hard in the next year or so to try and get reciprocity in. As it stands now, we still have a few cities who are going to keep their CCW bans in place, sort of a wait and see attitude until after the law goes into effect for a while.

But, our battles are slowly being won, bit by bit. So we'll see how things pan out in the next year or two.

I can pretty much guarantee that South Dakota will honor a Nebraska permit. (they honor every states permit) However, I can guarantee that unless some serious political wrangling is done, Nebraska won't honor a South Dakota permit. South Dakota has no training classes for a permit. All they do is a cursory background check for felony convictions. If you have no felonies, you get a permit. The training and knowing the law is up to the CPP holder.

I think you're right, there's no way Nebraska will honor a states permit that requires no training. Heck, to begin with they didn't even think 16 hours of training was enough for us. Only way it'll happen, is if that national bill passes that makes all states honor all CCW permits, regardless of requirements to get the permit.

Personally, I think 16 hours is excessive. The 4 hours range time seems OK, but what are you going to do in the classroom for 12 hours? 4 hours or so should be more than enough to cover the laws and even an hour or so on the ethical/moral issues.

I believe the requirement here is 4 hours of classroom and "demonstrate proficiency". The class I took was 4 hours of class and 3-4 hours on the range.
That semed to be just about right to me. The new shooters had enough time to be taught the basics; sight picture, sight alignment, trigger pull, plus basic firearm and range safety.
