IMO... With firearms, if someone has their gun drawn and on point, they will pretty much have the advantage against a knife. However, if it's coming from a draw as the attacker is in motion, coming off the center line is strategically the way to go. Unfortunately you can still receive a massive blade strike especially if BG doesnt readily display the knife at first. Even if your able to draw, fire and hit the BG.

Peace
Talon

Tomcat ...

Please ... provide legitimate reference that JKD is a traditional art. I think you referred to IMPC "not knowing what he was talking about?"...Im sure you are quite knowledgeable about Krav Maga. I on the other hand am not. While I have seen some, what I saw was pretty low grade stuff with not much substance. like i said, i've not seen much though. I am however knowledgeable abot both JKD and Mantis. To infer that mantis is one of the highest level of chinese martial arts, (you said that yourself) and not believe that it is combative is a lack of understanding on your part.

JKD is nothing even close to a traditional martial art. It is a blending art that is constantly evolving. A traditional art is based on tradition ....JKD is not that...

Im sure however your situation is much like mine as it relates to JKD and Mantis, you have limited exposure.

I would be curious to know however since you are obviously pretty passionate about Krav Maga, and since it has 'cahnged your life' as you say... where are you in regards to level in that system?.....

Good god, if I wanted to argue about martial arts I'd go to E-Budo.com!

sorry Tengu if I ruffled your feathers... Typically I read these things and do not post...In this case ignorance and a lack of knowledge on Tomcats part caused me to respond.

Tomcat I believe my email address is attached to my profile if you would like a history lesson... Personally I chose to learn my fighting tactics from fighters, not circus clowns!

Tengu- sorry again for ruffling your feathers.

I hate to see martial artists going at each others' throats. There is enough of that going on online as it is, and plenty of places to argue martial arts bull****.

The idea of traditional martial arts is fallible. The reason I say this, is because in order for a traditional martial art to survive, it must adapt and evolve. If it does not, then it dies (usually because its practitioners do). The whole idea of traditional martial arts being special and revered is somewhat laughable.

If we were to apply contemporary martial arts opinion regarding "tradition" to the military, then Marines should still be using line tactics and standing in rows to fight. Wow, wouldn't the insurgents love that?

The truth of the matter is this:
There are thousands of martial arts from every region of the world. Yet there is only one human design. This means that there is only a finite set of core methods by which the human body can be destroyed.

In the end, all martial arts share the same basic techniques for engaging in combat. To believe otherwise is ignorance and arrogance.

Martial arts have evolved to different forms -- each for their own reason -- and these reasons form the purpose for that particular style of martial arts in our universe. This is an aspect the art of martial arts.

However, the study of martial arts entails more than pure combat. True martial arts is something that enriches your life, physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.

So don't fight. You'll look like turds.

Seeing people argue about martial arts is one of the stupidest things ever.

Tengu, your right. My first post was quite respectfull and didn't bash anybody. Tomcat decided to start the bash fest and knew nothing about what he was talking about. That is probably why he never said anything else.
