that's a tough one. If you get a 10/22 and customize it, that will take you over the $300. Unless you get a used one already done?

I have an M&P 15-22, but that cost me $500...

10/22 is about as tactical as you need.

I have a Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 with the Magpul furniture and sights and a Primary Arms Micro red dot sight and LOVE it.

Accurate, fun, reliable and easy to clean. The M&P is the closest thing to a real 5.56 AR than the other "tactical" 22s.

Looked at all the others for a long time and went with the Smith. The SIG 522 is also nice, but it did not come with iron sights and does not have a last round bolt hold open like the Smith.

I also looked at the Colt 22 AR and the HK 22 that resembles the MP-5. Both just seemed cheap and flimsy compared to the Smith. Sad, because I have two Colt 1911s and they are really nice guns. Colt and HK subbed their 22s out to Umarex, so don't expect Colt or HK build quality on those guns.

Seriously....I'd go with the Smith & Wesson M&P15-22. I love ours and we have run pounds and pounds of lead through the thing and it is a real hit with everyone that has shot it.

Of the "Tactical" AR-22s the M&P is the only one that seems to be more than junk.
My GSG is awesomely versatile and the less you fiddle with it ( other than furniture ) the better it runs. I nearly ruined mine trying to needlessly squeeze the last little bit of accuracy out of it floating the barrel and whatnot. Out of the box on the first day with the drum sight I hit soda cans 7 out of 10 times at 100yds standing.
These are all mine, all the same gun, just different furniture, takes about five minutes to change from one to the other.

Bleck, I guess I'll find a use for my 10/22 someday, it just sits greased-up in the other safe waiting for my Marlin to miss a shot or my GSG-5 to stop being fun, haven't shot it in years.
