Cop Shoots Dog
But it's not about that really, as the dog charged (after getting provoked by woman/cops getting too close). But watch the cop on the right. HOLY HELL! He is firing (and shooting mace two handed) at the dog directly AT his partner and a loaded bus!! WTF. Any miss or through and through and you have a dead cop or bus passenger. Bad positioning. I guess in NYC there is nowhere really to aim and NOT have something behind. Left cop's first shot is also in the direction of the dog owners head.

As someone who has had to shoot dogs before I don't think its fun, but neither is rabies. This dog was more then likely trying to protect its homeless owner who is having a seizure. I dont know how many homeless people keep their dogs shots up to date. Im not heartless animal hater I would cry like a baby if anything happened to my dog.

I must say, that is one beautiful dog you have there. I'm a dog lover too. Got 3 of my own.

I don't know where anyone saw the cop on the right almost shoot his partner. I only saw him aim his OC. Edit: never mind, watched it again and noticed.
I hate seeing dogs get shot, even when it is necessary. Looks like the dog is alive and recovering though. Good to hear.

To the screaming idiot woman who was saying "why did you do that?"
Because it attacked a bystander and then went for the cop.

I don't like the idea of dogs being shot either, though I understand it is sometimes necessary. I can remember when I was in first grade, our neighbors had a large black (and unfriendly) dog that they kept in their backyard. I was coming home from school one day and had just stepped off the bus when that dog charged me and attacked me. It threw me to the ground and was biting me all over my arm. The bus driver saw the whole thing but couldn't get out to help me because there were still lots of kids on the bus. Luckily, my mom saw what happened and grabbed a broom and ran out and beat it until it let me go and ran away. The cops were called and the neighbors were warned, but I don't think the dog was taken away.

Yes, but both were unnecessarily getting close to the dog's owner. What did you expect the dog to do? I didn't see any EMT close by. Even if the guy was in trouble what were the cops going to do? They aren't medically trained. Guy is STILL laying there UNTOUCHED how many minutes after the shooting? The dog was obviously agitated, the old bag was an idiot, but the left cop also approached aggressively/quickly.

Are you implying it's the cop's fault the dog attacked? A properly trained dog should never attack like that. I get that he was protecting his owner, but it doesn't make it ok.
EDIT: I want to add that I know that it would be popular if a loyal dog protected his owner from a criminal attacker and it's unfortunate that a dog can't really tell the difference. That's why I believe it to be better than a dog should be trained to NOT attack.

Well didn't see any actual attacks. Some warning charges maybe. He didn't latch onto the old woman did he? And yes. I'm saying why did the cop even have to approach? The dog was agitated. What did he EXPECT to happen? Could have waited for animal control. If the dog actually did latch onto the woman, sure run up and shoot it.
