Events like this are why my wife and I do not talk to strangers in public places.
My family's safety is more important that hurting someone's feelings.

AGREED......i never allow ANYONE to approach me out in public......
and i don't care if i seem "rude" or not.....I don't owe anybody ANYTHING....money, gas, food or being polite.......
it seems like gas-stations are also a hub for people hanging around......there is always some creep hanging outside one where i live trying to peddle something.....the are not given a chance to speak when i walk by them

NEVER EVER roll down your window and drive off if you can. If they don't leave, make them.

Why did the BG shoot the victim who was trying to give him some gas money?
You can't win, you can't break even, you can't even quit the game.

So what do y'all do? Tell them to go away? What do you do if they keep walking towards you? I've never given anyone money that I didn't personally know. If someone asks for money for food then I'll go back inside (if i'm by a gas station) and grab something I would eat and a drink. If they turn it down oh well looks like I get to consume some more calories..

what do i do????
if stranger/peddler/goon approaches me for any reason, their initial response is something like "hey buddy" or "excuse me sir"....
immediately my hand goes up into a "STOP" position......."I have nothing for you , move along".......
that has worked 99 percent of the time.....the one time it did not, in the parking lot at wal mart, my right hand went straight towards my holstered weapon, resting on the grip that was still under my shirt.......only then did peddler/goon move along
i don't owe strangers a DAMN THING......and i will be a victim to none of them

As they approach and begin to talk to us, I hold up my left hand like a cop stopping traffic and say 'We don't know you. Please leave us alone'. If other people are around, I speak loudly enough for them to hear.
If we are near our vehicle, I escort my wife to the door, get her in and safe, then drive away as quickly as possible. If we are not near our vehicle, we head to a public place repeating 'We don't know you. Please leave us alone'.
If I feel at all threatened, I place my right hand under my shirt on the right side. There is a very nice ‘hand rest’ there. J That causes them to back off, I have never had to remove the ‘hand rest’.
The beggars in the Pacific Northwest are very aggressive. Several years ago Seattle proclaimed it’s self a sanctuary city for the homeless. Guess what? There are now a lot of homeless in the Seattle area.

LMFAO!!! This may work great for you, but I can just imagine someone acting this out in a parking lot.
Guy approaches, hey buddy... STOP!! I have nothing for you, move along!! LOL. I can see it now.
I don't necessarily agree though. A lot of these guys are down on their luck and while there are a bunch that choose to live this way, there are a bunch that don't and just need some help. With that being said, I don't give them money or anything directly. If I feel compelled to help the homeless, there are numerous organizations around my town that I can donate to.
I guess what I'm saying is they don't need to be treated like a 2nd class citizen simply because they're asking you a question. Sure, I go on high alert and don't let them too close when approached, but I don't treat them like crap either. I was always taught "you always know the answer if you never ask." What does it hurt?
I was talking with my family outside of a Taco Bell earlier this summer and we started talking about building something for some kids. This homeless guy was sitting by and piped up that he could build and would be willing to do the work. I politely turned him down and continued the conversation with my family. My wife wanted to report him to the manager, but he wasn't hurting anyone. He was actually looking to work for some money rather than just asking for a handout.

well, sir..... my safety is more important than someones "feelings"......
and like i said, i do not owe ANYBODY.....ANYTHING!!!!
but you keep living in your little fantasy-world where everything is safe, and all people are good.....and one of these days the "2nd class citizen" is going to pull a knife, or something worse on you...but hes "just asking you a question"....right?????
ask someone who has been there, and i don't give a rats-*** about hurting someones "feelings".....give me a break!!!!
