I distinctly remember paying $1000 for my Apple Newton Messagepad 130 when it was new. I've had PDAs of every flavor imaginable from WinCE to Palm to WinMobile and finally settled on Android. There are things I don't like about it (MOSTLY having to do with cursor positioning), but my Razr Maxx kind of continues to amaze me, and I have owned an electronics manufacturing business for about 3 decades. It is a VERY capable smartphone.

Apart from development, I run pretty much the remainder of my business with my phone. I am a very picky person when it comes to techie stuff, and Android fits the bill for me. I had a hell of a time finding acceptable invoicing software until somewhat recently.

The Razr Maxx, I really like it but I wish the connector was on the bottom instead of the top, but the phone is fast, the screen is great, and the battery life is also great (buy the extended warranty, because you can't change the battery yourself, at least not yet that I am aware of). It's a tough little gizmo that they say can be dropped onto concrete.

I've owned Apple computers and Apple Newtons, but I have no desire to own an iPhone. I just can't get past the politics of the Cupertino clan anymore.

Besides, MY PERSONAL FEELING on the topic is that Apple products work great- until they don't, and then problem resolution is often laborious. Don't believe people when they tell you that Apple crap never breaks, because it does.

Unquestionably, your mileage will vary.
ok gotta ask what invoicing program it is that you like best?

Mine was too... I would have stuck with Motorola if they wouldn't have gone to encrypting their bootloader. I would probably have a Droid 4 right now. However, I've adjusted very well to my Thunderbolt, probably going to sit on it for a while.

I don't think I'll want another personal smart phone until I find one with MiniHDMI, removable battery/sd.

I too had the first droid. Best phone I've ever had . But it was slow compared to what's out now. Looooved it like stupid. I still have it. If this one dies I have a reason to used it again. Thing was bullet proof.

Wasn't it a few years ago that everyone wanted their phones smaller?

Lets be real. It's not like you can dramatically change the way a smart phone is shaped. Function before form any day of the week.
I agree. I would like the screen to be slightly smaller as long as the phone size does not increase much. I like the size of my iPhone 4S. It fits in my hand nicely, fits in my pocket nicely, etc. I don't want a Galaxy because of exactly that, it's too big. I'm not trying to watch movies on my phone so much that I need to make that my top priority or one of them.

Even if this so called 'preview' of what is to come as the iPhone 5 it's going to be a completely new phone. Even if it looks similar it's still going to be a whole new phone. New processor, longer battery life, more memory, more RAM, better cameras, larger screen, etc. I'm fine with it looking similar as long as all of those criteria are met and it is trouble free.

I think its a crummy business strategy, but if their market will pony up cash which = profit then I can see why...after all, Apple has a history of releasing new products that resemble old products...
I agree there is a large Apple following that are Kool-Aid drinkers. However, coming from someone who hated Apple until I started using some of their products I think the people who will stick with Apple no matter what are stupid. The people who constantly rip on people who use Apple products are stupid.

It's set in stone that it will be a new magnetic connector like the Macbook.

That's a Verizon problem, not an Apple problem. Having simultaneous 3G voice and data service is not a problem with AT&T.

I'm also with the crowd that prefers the iPhone size. My buddy got the new Galaxy and he has to wear it on his belt because it's too big to fit in a pocket comfortably. If I really wanted that big of a screen but didn't want to carry my laptop, I'd get a tablet.

It's actually kind of both Verizon and Apple's issue, my Thunderbolt (also on Verizon) does simultaneous 3G voice and data because it has an SVDO radio (essentially two CDMA antennas). Then LTE on top of that, so I effectively have three radios in my phone. At first I was slightly surprised when no other Verizon phone came with the SVDO. How ever it is apparently a pain from a programming side. Hell, it's what holds up most developers of custom ROMs on my phone.

So I understand that Apple didn't put an SVDO antenna in it's universal antenna phone, simply because I don't think anyone but Verizon uses it as it is a relatively new addition to the CDMA standard. I just think it's funny that they are pushed as cutting edge phones, when they aren't. Also, the new dock connector doesn't excite me at all since I have several accessories that use the current dock connector. WiiPry Spectrum, HDMI out, VGA out, and video out dongles.

I had an original Droid X for a couple years, but never bought the HDMI cable for it. Now, I stream Netflix to my TV and it works flawlessly. I got tired of waiting for the late-Wednesday Sons of Anarchy reruns so we just watched them on Netflix.

The Razr Maxx fits the bill with the exception of the removable battery.

Seeing as how I just got my iPhone 4s earlier this year, I think I'm going to skip the next "iPhone" release (it won't be called iPhone 5) and wait for the next release (probably dubbed iPhone 6 unofficially). I'm kind of stuck in between release cycles right now anyway because of my contract date, so if I just skip a cycle, I can renew my contract when the new phones come out and then be in that release cycle window for future upgrades (at least within 2-3 months anyway).
