Why are suppressors so damned expensive? In many cases more than the weapon itself...

I have wondered the same thing when a simple thread adapter can convert an oil can into basically the same thing.

Because they can I guess.
I suppose it does take some engineering and precision machining to produce. Those machines aren't cheap, and I guessing engineers and machinists aren't either.

I'm thinking it's rules-related as well. If your merchandise is classified as an NFA- or GCA-covered item the price skyrockets.

I couldn't purchase one even if I had the $... I wish I could but don't you have to have a class III license?

Well to make money selling NFA items they have to be over priced. Only 100-120 of these items can be processed on a given day for the entire civilian market. That's not a per company but 100-120 for all NFA manufacturers combined period. The only people they can sell to easily is Military and LEO. This is also why there is a 6-9 month wait is they are back logged over 30,000
