PHARR - Police say a homeowner shot one suspected burglar and held a second one at gunpoint after a botched home invasion this morning.
According to Pharr police a third suspect got away. They say he may be driving a green Jeep Cherokee.
The incident happened just after 11 a.m. at a home on the 700 block of Bronze.
Police say the injured suspect was taken to a local hospital. There is no word yet on his condition.

The only "botched" part of this is that all three perps are still consuming oxygen.

 Background
Pharr experiences a higher rate of violent crime than most other areas of Texas and the nation. The problems emerge in relation to subcultural supports that exist for violent behavior, because of its location in Texas, and especially in the U.S.-Mexican border area. The crime problems are further stimulated by drug-dealing with the impact of the cartels. This spills over into and is connected to the large number of juvenile and adult gangs in Pharr, and their gang-related crimes (i.e., home invasions/stash houses, smuggling currency, firearms/ammunition, theft of vehicle etc.). Pharr is in one of the poorest counties in the nation, has high poverty and unemployment rates, and a large number of undocumented residents (often targets of unreported crime); this, along with its increasing population, contributes to the crime problem. The Pharr Police Department is being stretched beyond its abilities to control crime.
