A lot of folks don't understand that Freedom of Speech only protects the speaker legally. It does not protect the speaker from action on the part of another free entity (individual or corporation). A person can exercise his/her free speech rights on Facebook, and the employer can exercise his/her free speech rights by saying "you're fired."
Otherwise, any drunk at a bar could say anything he wanted to a good looking girl, and when she slapped him, he could file charges for infringing on his 1st Amendment right - Not the way it was written.

He could file charges for Assault and Battery. Believe it or not, she would end up spending time if anyone wants to act as a witness.

The people in this case were fired for supporting a rival political party, and the courts upheld the decision. Am I the only person that sees this?
