Trying to Grow My Business

https://www.missionsmallbusiness.com/

IT only works if you have a Facebook account, but I need 250 votes before June 30 to qualify for a $250,000 grant to build my business.

In case you don't know, I run a non-religious private school from my home called Independent Academics. Independentacademics.com

I teach Pre-K through 12th grade using Curriculum that I design from various state standards throughout the nation. I charge $400 monthly for 50 hours per week, per student. (Don't try to figure out my hourly wage, you'd cry...) Right now I have 8 students I'd LOVE to get a bigger building (working out of my basement right now) and to be able to hire some teachers

I used to teach in public schools, but they are not good for students. Students are failing left and right even though teachers have stopped giving out failing grades for fear of being fired. (Sad right?)

With my masters degree and 10 years experience, the most I can make is 25,000 per year as a public school teacher. I am certified to teach in Connecticut, Oklahoma, and working on getting it here in Utah.

IBWaldo, my wonderful husband has only a high school diploma and makes double what I make with 6 years college under my belt Lovely how life works

I love my job and would love to grow in my business of serving other people, mainly our future leaders.

If you have a Facebook account and would be so inclined to assist, your vote would be greatly appreciated.

Business name: Independent Academics
State: Utah
City: Hooper

You only have to use state and city, I'm the only one from Hooper trying to earn the grant

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to support my small business

I just got on Facebook, and gave you a "Like"! Is that the same thing as a 'Vote'? I'll also mention this to friends and family who are more Facebook oriented than I am.

Nevermind, figured it out, just voted.

Please keep us posted on how this progresses.

Also, FWIW, my thoughts and prayes are with you and your family.

Voted. Good luck.

It was pretty easy. Go to the web site. Login with FB. Scroll down. Put Independent Academics in the search box. Select Utah. Select Hooper. Hit Search. On the next page, click vote next to the school name.

ETA: Congratulations Amanda on the outcome of the trial. You have my utmost respect.

IMHO, what's more important than the curriculum is the approach to teaching. Curriculums tend to follow the same approach (you learn addition before multiplication, etc.) which is the easy part. It's how the student is taught that matters. I haven't seen/read the approach anywhere.

I teach 100% hands on I've taught at the New England Center for Children (used to be New England Center For Children With Autism, now they take a wide range of disabilities), Special Needs in Connecticut, Special needs severe/profound and mild/moderate in Oklahoma, Mild/Moderate and Severe/Profound in Mass, and here in Utah I teach a wide spectrum from advanced, to mild learning disabled. I teach each individual on an as needed basis. For example, I have two 4 year old students (one boy, and one girl) who read and write, and I have a 6 year old who struggles with letter recognition. I also have high school students who struggle with applied Algebra, and middle school students in advanced Trigonometry. It's all about hands on learning with each individual style. Some students are kinesthetic learners and we do a lot of Ekphrasis, art, drawing, writing, searching, etc... Some students are auditory learners and we do a lot of verbal interacting and listening techniques with those students, I is all a matter of learning what each individual student needs, and following their learning path in order to create strong students and a fun learning environment.

Thank you so much to everyone who has voted. I hope, in my lifetime, schools go back to a more simple time when a few students sat in each teacher's classroom learning and loving their educational experiences. I know, I'm a dreamer, but it doesn't hurt to hope

Done. Good luck to you. Quality teaching is a worthy endeavor.
