It doesn't look like a garden to me, looks like she just let her yard go, and then tried to claim it was a garden. The article also states she had an inoperable vehicle in the driveway.

Haha, the inoperable vehicle was at ANOTHER residence, where she had the same complaints about the same problem as her current residence. That is how she knew the exact wording of the city code. Sounds to me like she is just a trashy peson and would rather have a yard full of weeds than some grass to mow.
But, if the city is serious about that "no plants over 12" rule, they need to look across the street.
Or at every other house in the whole city I suppose. Not many plants available that won't get taller than one foot. I may have to look for that particular statute to see what isn't being reported here. I feel there is something we are not being told.

^ what exactly about your neighbors yard " pisses you off". I firmly believe that someone can do whatever they like on their own property as long as it does not put others in harms way. Who cares if she cultivated her front yard. It may look like a mess to you but to her it was something else. And it was HER property and I'm pretty sure there are only a few plants that can kill you but only if your dumb enough to eat them. Just my opinion.

It lowers property value. If your neighbors yard looks like a giant mess, it hurts the possiblity of you ever being able to sell your house. Prospective buyers will look at your neighbors messy yard, and think to themselves, "Do I really want to live next to that?"
Like I said, gardens in the back are great, but take care of your property.

its her lawn. its her driveway.
if she liked looking out to see her plants being full and bushy that's her business. if she had a car in her driveway that's her business. its not like it was on the street.
I had a teacher in high school that had a back yard like walking through Sherwood forest right in the middle of town. he would sit with his wife and drink their morning coffee and see what wildlife would show up.
its just what they liked to do and its not any ones business. he was telling me neighbors would gripe at him but we sat down at his table in his back yard and it was actually very nice. you could easily forget you are "in town".

I'm sure that broken down vehicle meant something else to her also. But to everyone else, it was just that, a broken down vehicle.
There are statutes like this for a reason. I don't want my town to look like a complete dump where people are allowed to leave trash and crap all over their unkept lawn.
The housing market is already bad enough, we don't need people like this lowering the property values even more. Maybe you would not mind living next door to someone with an unkept lawn with broken down vehicles parked in it, but I mind. And appearantly, other people mind as well. Like I said, there must be something here we are not being told. I am pretty sure the city won't come out and go to all that trouble after just one complaint. I am not saying they didn't over step their bounds a little, but then again maybe they didn't. Sounds to me like they had received multiple complaints about what they saw as a repeat offender, since they have had the same problem in the past at another residence of hers.

Agreed. I hate yard Nazis. I use to have a very nice neighbor who was always in trouble with the city over his plants and stuf. The neighbors on the other side of him were always calling on him. Didn't bother me. I say live and let live. If you're that worried about what your neighbors are doing, move out to the country and get some land. Some people just have way too much time on their hands and these city inspectors are crazy with power.

If there is a question about it, you decide in court, you just don't start hacking away and especially if you hacking down valuable trees. The city bypassed the court system, the very definition of an out of control overreaching government. I hope they get the behind handed to them in the suite.

Holy Crap, you all must hate me then... I am a Code Enforcement Officer... Never been called a yard Nazi before... other stuff but not that... Sounds kind of messed up though, not familiar with their ordinances, but that seems pretty extreme, even to me!

This is what is leading me to believe we are not getting the entire story here.
