Get a ****load of opinions and at least two of them from oncologists/specialists. Some doctors are "cut-happy" as hell while others are too careful. Same thing for surgeons. Some will practically neuter a guy for prostrate cancer while others do more test and remove less. Some newer techniques for skin cancer for example take much less tissue but have as good or better success rates. There are a lot of reasons for lumps, I assume you are leaving out a lot of medical talk, I would think should be more info than just growth over time to diagnose cancer..Good Luck in any case and keep your chin up. You would be surprised how many people you already know are cancer survivors or had a "near-miss" that scared the **** out of them.

Thanks for the thoughts and comments guys and gals. If anyone has anymore expierience with this sorta thing, please speak up.
As far as getting a second opinion, We will be doing that depending on what this surgeon is proposing. From what Ihave read, it should be possible to just go in like mentioned above and take only what is needed to be removed, but some pics on line, wow.... looks like a real hack job. thanks again. |

tec,
Take one step at a time..... From what I read, you're still not sure the lump is cancerous....??? Let the surgeon get it out and see where you go from there. Try not to worry about things that haven't happened yet. It will only make it worse. Get out and start getting some exercise, do some walking if nothing else to get in a little better shape so the surgery won't be so hard on your body. It helps the head too. About 2 years ago my wife had a lumpectomy to remove a tumor from her breast. She lost a little tissue and has a scar, but she is far from being "disfigured." And she is stronger than ever, I'm proud to say. Stay positive, ask everyone you know for prayers and tell yourself you're going to be OK. One step at a time. You'll lose a lot of sleep and drive yourself crazy with the "what ifs"...I know from experience. You're gearing up for a fight just as if someone was attacking you and your family. Do what it takes to make yourself stronger so that winning will be easier and quicker. Praying for you and the family. It's tough on them too. bd |

1: You think they're real? 2: Well, one of them... [/] Sorry, always believed laughter was the best medicine. I've got all sorts of weird lumps under my skin... Had one removed a couple months ago, and it looked like Floam. Apparently it was some weird fatty/connective tissue thing that some people are prone to. Doc told me not to worry about the others. (Shrug) I'm not sure if I hope that your lump is cancer, or hope that it gets removed and ends up being no big deal. A little terrified to do a search, but... Know that you're probably seeing worst-case stuff!

You were right about the internet being a mistake. I do the same thing, but remember that what you see there are usually the worst case scenarios. Don't start worrying too much till you see the Dr. Thursday. If it's not cancerous the chances of losing a boob are pretty slim. Ususally just a scar from removing the tissue.
Let us know what he says, you've got two of the most important things going for you, a lot of support and a good sense of humor. Good luck, we're all pulling for you. |
