Need your help with an article.
I'd like your help. What shooting tip(s), exercise(s), concept(s) have been the most helpful to you? I'm compiling an article from your input that will be available free when I'm done. I admit it's an experiment of sorts because I don't know what you will contribute.
I started to write an article myself trying to pull together what I'd learned from Jeff Cooper, Ross Seyfried, Chip McCormick in person and from watching Rob Leatham, Brian Enos, Doug Keonig, Todd Jarrett, etc. I was going to compare the earlier training with recent developments. I realized that while I have a lot of shooting experience in competition from years ago, I'm just not current, and I don't shoot very often anymore. I'll bet you all have a lot to contribute. When it's done, I'll make it available online for free. We'll just have to see how it turns out, but I'm betting that you all will make it interesting, valuable and worth reading. So, if you're willing, let me know what you learned, where you learned it, who said so, what it did for your shooting skill and if there's a link we can post for everyone else to find it. I thank you in advance for your help.

Work on correcting ONE thing at a time.
Don't try to fix your grip, your sight picture, and your stance all at the same time!

Forget getting the "equipment" (expensive gun, holster, ammo) and just learn how to shoot with good habits, etc. You might want to also dispell some of the myths of shooting and also define terms that we are acustomed to but many beginners have no idea what they are (POA etc). I would make a skipable section of the very basics so those who know nothing wont have to just guess.

The article should contain some sort syllabus traning regiment with funtional repeatable indoor/outdoor gun range facilities. More over best practices on CCW techniques including hardware technical discussion. Inclusive to your holsters, lights and ammo.
Stands, Grips sight pictures and I think the delivery method of your article should examine Video, Photos, etc.

Are you doing an article or a book? With open guidelines like you gave, you could probably do a couple books.
Stick to the basics; stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control. Its a good starting point.

And don't practice with the target at 25 yards!!!
That was my first mistake. Start real close, about 15 feet, then work your way back. tom

A very good exercise that works as well for beginners as more experienced folks is the Dot Drill....

as i recently took up shooting, the best piece of advice i learned was "how not to anticipate the shot" (explained as when the gun fires, i should be surprised)
in that same vein, i'm a huge fan of putting a random snap cap in the stack or dry firing (yes, i know it's not great for the gun) after i've fired the mag just to see if i'm subconsciously anticipating the shot and pulling the gun |

I would recommend taking a silver sharpie with you to the range(shows up best on the black and white). Many new shooters go to the range and they fire lots of rounds and see how things group generally, but somewhere through the mag, they just kind of start squeezing off rounds. I usually fire 3 shot groups, although you can use 5, and then I bring the target in and circle the groups and put a number next to it (1 on 5 shots, 2's on the next 5, etc). This way you can see not only where you're grouping, but if you happened to pull a particular shot, etc. You can also see if you started to shoot better as you got more into your groove, or if you started to shoot worse as you anticipated recoil or got tired. This is a great way to help new shooters slow down and make the most of every shot, instead of just burning through the rounds. I'm also a big fan of training with snapcaps in your mags if you have a partner, and also dry firing drills with snapcaps, so that you get more accustomed to the trigger of your firearm, and also learn good muscle memory and sight picture.
